Masters Heads to 'Speed Cubing' Competition

Ben, who has been practicing his “cubing” skills about five months, has a personal best time of “about 17 seconds,” which has been perfected as he has practiced during his free time through each day and has worked up to doing five or six “solves” per hour, he said. He attends eighth grade at Dayton Intermediate School.

Xian Na Carlson began learning folk dances as a child growing up in Zhangzhou, China. From her aunt she learned the Tuan Shan, (fan dance), the Xin Jiang regional dance and Tai Ji forms.

Decked out in full Santa Claus attire, the Jolly St. Nick, at least six different versions of him, plus several helpers and assigned reserve deputies passed out candy canes and pre-arranged gifts from parents to an estimated 500 children.
Polar Express rides still available at Ely's Nevada Northern Railway

This magical ride, licensed by Warner Bros., follows both the book and movie; and features a vintage diesel locomotive pulling heated passenger train cars to the North Pole.
Including Friday, there are there are 13 remaining Polar Express rides through Dec. 28; except Dec. 24 and 25 when the railroad is closed. Polar Express holiday trains in Carson City have been sold out for several weeks.

The event is free to attend and parents are encouraged to bring their own camera to take capture the precious memories. The entire Carson Nugget Banquet area will be decorated including a live Santa Claus and there will be hot chocolate and candy canes for the children.
During this event the Carson Nugget will also be collecting coats to donate to those in need this winter season.

More than two dozen riders participate in Halloween Blinky Man bike event

The free-to-ride all ages event saw participants dress themselves and their bikes with costumes and bright and blinking lights where they peddled around town, including a stop at the Governor's mansion. After the children's events finished the tour was geared toward adult riding with stops at The Tap Shack and the Haunted Alley Way at the Horseshoe Club.

Normally operated only on summer holiday weekends and for Santa Train, the historic and picturesque locomotive will pull the train, giving visitors a rare opportunity to ride the rails and photograph the equipment in fall splendor.
