Historic steam train rides this weekend in Carson City at Nevada Railroad Museum
The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will offer a special run of the famous V&T Steam Locomotive No. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13.
Normally operated only on summer holiday weekends and for Santa Train, the historic and picturesque locomotive will pull the train, giving visitors a rare opportunity to ride the rails and photograph the equipment in fall splendor.
“After canceling Labor Day trains because of unhealthy air from the big forest fire in California, we are so happy to be able to offer this special run for the community. We hope rail enthusiasts from all over will get a chance to experience this kind of history in action,” said Frank Ackerman, director of the museum.
Visitors are also invited inside to explore the museum’s interpretive center where the story is told of how the railroads were built and their role in the state’s development in the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum store also offers literature and railroad merchandise for historians and rail fans of all ages.
Train rides will be $8 for adults, $4 for members and for children ages 4-11. The museum is at 2180 S. Carson St. For information, contact (775) 687-6953.
