Carson City firefighters knock down small brush fire near South Carson Street and Highway 50; Red Flag Warning issued due to gusty winds
Carson City Fire Department was called late Thursday morning to a brush fire reported in the area of South Carson Street and Highway 50 West near the Spooner junction. Firefighters were able to knock down the flames before it began to spread.
Shortly before 11:40 a.m. the call came through dispatch of a brush fire. Units on scene within minutes and knocked it down before it went into a nearby structure.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Red Flag Warning through 6 p.m. tonight for Carson City, the Lake Tahoe area, and the Sierra Front. Winds are forecast to be from the southwest, increasing to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph later in the day. Local gusts of 45 to 50 mph are possible this afternoon in wind prone areas.
The forecast calls for rain Thursday night into Friday morning with 2-4 inches of snow at Lake Level at Tahoe and up to 8 inches in the higher elevations.
