Nevada employment department makes key appointments for Carson City, Vegas divisions
The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation on Thursday announced the appointment of two administrative positions for divisions in Carson City and Las Vegas.
Ms. Kimberly Gaa has been appointed as administrator for the agency’s Employment Security Division in Carson City and Dr. Marilyn Delmont has been appointed as administrator of the Information Development and Processing Division in Las Vegas.
“I am thrilled to make this announcement and to have these two outstanding professionals in our agency. Ms. Gaa brings years of DETR and varied state experience matched only by her passion for public service and a proven perseverance in carrying out her daily duties,” said Dr. Tyler-Garner, DETR’s director.
“Dr. Delmont, although new to the agency, is not new to information technology. She brings in-depth knowledge that will greatly benefit the division and agency. I welcome both into their new roles and look forward to serving Nevadans for years to come,” the director said in a news release.
Kimberly Gaa was appointed as administrator for the Employment Security Division on August 16th of 2019 and has been with DETR since 2012. Ms. Gaa is not a new face around DETR, having previously served as administrator for the Information and Development and Processing Division.
As the ESD administrator, she is charged with the oversight of the state’s Unemployment Insurance Program, which is responsible for the collection of employment taxes and the payment of benefits. She is also charged with the state’s Employment and Training Services which include the federal Wagner Peyser, WIA, Trade, and VETS programs and an employer-funded program called the Career Enhancement Program.
Workforce Development programs offer job placement and training opportunities that assist businesses in meeting their employment needs and job seekers in returning to work through the state's workforce investment system, Nevada JobConnect.
Prior to joining DETR, Ms. Gaa worked in various state positions for varied agencies including the Departments of Administration, Military, Motor Vehicles, Public Safety, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. Ms. Gaa holds an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from Western Nevada College, a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nevada, Reno in General Studies and Business and is also a Certified Public Manager.
“I am honored to have been appointed as the new ESD administrator and look forward to my role as leader of this vital division,” said Gaa. “I believe this to be a critical role within DETR and look forward to finding innovative ways to improve the services the agency and division provide to Nevada’s workforce and employer communities.”
Dr. Marilyn Delmont was appointed as the administrator of the Information Development and Processing Division for the Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation also on the 16th of August.
As administrator of IDP, she oversees information technology and automated computing activities for DETR. These activities include maintaining the DETR telecommunication network, supporting production databases and business applications, managing the hardware infrastructure, and completing strategic technology projects.
Prior to joining DETR, Dr. Delmont was Associate Vice Chancellor of Information Technology at NSHE, where she was responsible for system-wide information technology strategy, enterprise operations, large and complex ERP implementation, information technology security, policies, planning, support and service delivery.
Dr. Delmont holds a Doctoral degree in Workforce Development and Organizational Leadership, from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; a Master of Public Administration, from Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN; and a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems Tarkio College in St. Louis, MO.
“I am so pleased to have been appointed to this essential position in a field that is my passion. I look forward to working with the director and staff as I embark on my path of public service here at DETR,” said Dr. Delmont.
Ms. Gaa is based in DETR’s SAO building in Carson City while Dr. Delmont is based in DETR’s Stan Jones Building, in Las Vegas. Both will travel regularly to their other corresponding DETR offices.
