The Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating bones that were discovered Monday evening near Schulz Ranch Park in south Carson City.
The sheriff's office was contacted Monday evening after the discovery of bones, which appeared have been there awhile. The area once served as a ranch.
The remains, which have not been determined to be human or animal, were found scattered in a field area under construction near Lahontan Drive and Wheeler Peak Drive near Schulz Ranch Park, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
People around the area had been inquiring what the sheriff's office was doing Monday night in the field, said Furlong. The area was cordoned off and detectives were called to the scene to investigate.
As of Tuesday morning it was undetermined whether or not the bones are human.
At first look the bones may have been there a long time and were possibly scattered by coyotes, the sheriff said.
The matter is under investigation. Check back for updates.
