Yerington man gets life prison sentence for killing wife who worked as rural mail carrier
A Yerington man convicted in May of killing his wife who worked as a rural mail carrier was sentenced Thursday to life in prison with the eligibility for parole in 25 years, according to Lyon County District Attorney Stephen B. Rye.
The Third Judicial District Court sentenced Dustin Cooper, 29, of Yerington, Nev. to life in prison with parole after 20 years and a consecutive sentence of 20 years with parole after 5 years for the deadly weapon enhancement.
The jury returned the guilty verdict in the case on May 10, 2018. Cooper was convicted for killing his wife Johnie Shadden of Yerington, Nev. On March 22, 2016, Shadden, 26, stopped at their home in Yerington on a break while working her job as a rural mail carrier.
She was home a short time before Cooper called 911. Officers and medical personnel arrived at the residence. They were unable to save Shadden, who died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the torso. Cooper was arrested after a lengthy investigation led by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division.
