JAG Nevada welcomes new assistant director of programs for Northern Nevada
Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates, also known as JAG Nevada, a statewide high school dropout intervention and work readiness program, welcomes Jim Dahl as the new Assistant Director of Programs for Northern Nevada.
Based in JAG Nevada’s Reno office, Dahl will focus on the coordination of JAG programs throughout the northern Nevada region ranging from urban areas like Reno and Sparks to rural programs such as those in Round Mountain and McDermitt. Dahl will support the JAG Specialists at the school level, as well as collaborate with local businesses to showcase career paths for JAG students.
“I am dedicated to raising awareness for JAG Nevada in the community,” said Dahl. “I appreciate my time at Fernley High School and have seen the students and staff embrace the JAG mission. I want to expand that reach to the community level, so the region knows what JAG is and the great work it does throughout the state.”
Before becoming Assistant Director of Programs, Dahl spent 2 years as a JAG Specialist at Fernley High School where he supported his students to a 100 percent graduation rate. With each passing year, more students sought out enrollment in the JAG class, wanting to be part of the success.
“The unique aspect of the JAG program, the very thing that inspired me to be a JAG Specialist, was the year follow-up after graduation,” said Dahl. “Graduation can be a difficult time for students, especially those who need extra assistance, so knowing someone has your back a year after you graduate to inspire you and hold you accountable guarantees the success of these students even after they have left high school.”
Before JAG, Dahl had diverse career experiences in the geothermal and construction industries that he used to inspire his students. Additionally, Jim worked for Rite of Passage, a nationally recognized treatment facility focused on at-risk youth, where he was inspired to continue helping our community’s youth achieve their goals.
“Jim’s depth and breadth of experience, his teaching experience, and his leadership style are qualities that will help him lead his team in the Reno area and beyond to greater successes,” said René Cantú Jr., Executive Director for JAG Nevada. “We are glad to have this dynamic, experienced leader onboard!”
