Carson City Little League scrimmages return with new health and safety measures
Carson City Little League held its first scrimmages of the season Monday at Governor's Field under the new health and safety guidelines enforced by the state of Nevada.
According to the Carson City Little Leagues Facebook page, several rules and safety measures will be put in place for players, coaches and spectators. The rules go as followed:
— Facemasks are required for everyone 10 years old and up outside the playing field. Coaches are required to wear facemasks. Players are not required to wear facemasks.
— The bleachers will not be available for spectators. The bleachers are for over-flow from dugouts, as social distancing is still in effect amongst off-field players. Families are asked to bring their own chairs and sit around the perimeter of the field.
— The pace of play should allow for coaching/teaching opportunities during play.
— No sharing of drinks amongst players. No gum or seeds in the complex from players, coaches and spectators.
— COVID-19 screening/questioning of all players and coaching staff remain in effect.
— Umpires may not be scheduled at the scrimmages. There will be times where our UIC may wish to use them as training opportunities.
— Score will still be kept for AA, AAA, Majors, Jr. and Sr. it is necessary to ensure safe pitch counts and to track minimum play. As always, each team will need to provide a scorekeeper.
With the new guidelines in place, the coaching staff and players of all ages are excited to return to the field.
“It’s good to see these kids playing in a safe environment,” assistant coach Tyrone Schultz said. “They aren’t sitting at home doing nothing. They can go out and play baseball and have some fun.”
