NV Energy seeks electric rate increase a month after saying it will cut bills by 6.1 percent
After announcing last month its plans to decrease rates by 6.1 percent, NV Energy says it wants to adjust consumer rates, provide for refunds from energy efficient revenue collected in 2014 and increase electric rates an estimated 0.82 percent across all rate classes for Northern Nevada customers.
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled a consumer session Thursday, June 11, to hear public comment regarding NV Energy’s application to adjust Northern Nevada customer rates. In May of this year, NV Energy said it was going to decrease rates by 6.1 percent beginning July 1.
The electric rate application seeks approval of fuel and purchased power expenses for 2014 and to reset several renewable energy and energy efficiency program rates. The electric application also proposes to refund a portion of energy efficiency revenue collected in 2014.
For electric customers, NV Energy proposes to increase rates an estimated 0.82 percent across all rate classes. The average monthly residential bill is estimated to increase $0.71, or 0.75 percent. It was unclear Wednesday whether the proposed rate increase hike will coincide with the 6.1 percent decrease NV Energy said will go into effect July 1.
The natural gas application seeks approval of natural gas, liquid propane and interstate transmission expenses for 2014. For gas customers in Reno and Sparks, NV Energy proposes to decrease rates an estimated 0.12 percent across all rate classes. The average monthly residential bill is estimated to decrease by 7 cents, or 0.12 percent.
