Group to pitch tents instead of forks at Nevada Legislature
A camp-out demonstration has been set for Monday through Wednesday at the Nevada Legislature in Carson City and is being led by a group of education supporters who favor a tax hike to fund schools.
According to a Facebook entry, the groups Fused 2011 and Nevada Values are behind the movement at the Legislature and are encouraging Nevada students, K-12 faculty, staff, health and human services and the community at large to pitch tents outside the Capitol.
Organizers say they want to "spread the word about current Nevada Legislative issues" and that they are "encouraging students from the University of Nevada and all citizens to get involved and come together for Nevada."
The group says it will sleep in tents outside of the Capitol, and lobby and protest during the days, May 16-18.
"It is our last push to in encourage our legislators to raise revenue in order to save mental health and community service, and education before the cuts are finalized for the next biennium," according to the Facebook entry.
Buses from southern Nevada will bring activists, the groups say.
