Washoe Nursery opening for spring conservation plant sale
The Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) Washoe State Tree Nursery in Washoe Valley opens Thursday, May 11, and will remain open through mid-October. The nursery will be open to the public from 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Thursday through Saturday.
The Nevada Nursery Program’s mission is to assist landowners by providing plant material suitable for conservation uses such as, but not limited to, windbreaks, soil erosion control, water conservation and wildlife habitat. Plants purchased at the Washoe State Tree Nursery must be used for conservation purposes.
Trees, shrubs, grasses and perennials are available. The plants are grown and maintained at the nursery and conditioned to survive northern Nevada’s cold winters and hot summers.
NDF staff will be on-site to answer technical questions about plant selection, windbreak construction, pest and disease identification, fire-safe landscaping and general planting practices.
Plants will be available on a first come, first served basis. Prices vary according to container size, from $2.50 to $20.00. For a list of available species please visit www.forestry.nv.gov or call the nursery at 775-849-0213.
The nursery is located at 885 Eastlake Blvd. in Washoe Valley.
