Carson City weather: Snow expected Monday morning prompts Winter Weather Advisory
A storm system moving into the region may produce snow showers around Carson City and Reno that could affect Monday morning's commute, according to the National Weather Service.
A Winter Weather Advisory for the region has been issued from 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday. The weather service advisory area includes Carson City, Reno, Carson Valley, Virginia City, Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock and Silver Springs.
A low pressure system, called an “inside slider” by forecasters, will drop south into Western Nevada. Bands of snow showers will develop Monday morning and may be locally heavy with up to 2 inches of snow possible, according to the weather service. A heavier band is expected to form and could bring up to 5 inches. The snow could affect either the I-80 or Highway 50 corridors.
Motorists can expect areas of slushy or snow packed roads with the Monday morning commute. For road conditions call 1-800-427-7623 for California and 1-877-NV-Roads for Nevada.
