Carson City Senior Center, Sheriff Furlong form new senior education program
The Carson City Senior Center and Sheriff Ken Furlong announced Thursday they are partnering with Carson City Fire Department to form a new senior education program encompassing issues related to public safety and health.
“We are excited to bring back this educational component of the former Triad program,” Furlong said. “We have so many wonderful resources and opportunities to share topics of interest with our seniors.”
The first session, targeted for June, will include the Sheriff’s department’s special enforcement team covering drugs, gangs and canine officers.
Courtney Warner, executive director of the Senior Center, said she is looking for volunteers to fill roles on the program’s advisory council to build structure and establish by-laws to govern the program.
"We expect some heavy lifting in the beginning for the board, but we expect it to level out fairly quickly once those are established,” Warner said.
Warner said she hopes to find representatives from the corporate sector, R.S.V.P, Health and Human Services, Clergy, an elected official and a member-at-large to round out the board.
Anyone interested in filling a role on the board is asked to contact Warner at cwarner@carson.org or by calling (775) 283-7235.
