Carson City commute: Winter weather places travel restrictions on area roads
A strong band of winter weather moving through the area Thursday night into Friday has placed travel restrictions on area highways and roadways in and around Carson City, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) said.
Chains or snow tires are required in both directions on Interstate 580 through Carson City, NDOT said, from Eastlake Blvd to the U.S. Highway 50 West junction at South Carson Street.
Chains or snow tires are also required on I-580 for about six miles through Washoe Valley.
Chains or snow tires are required on U.S. Highway 50 West from about the Douglas County line to mile post 14 in Carson City.
Traction tires or devices are required for 11 miles on State Route 28 from Douglas County to Washoe County, as well as the entire length of Kingsbury Grade along SR 207 between U.S. Highway 50 West and Foothill Road.
Chains or snow tires are required on SR 341 through Virginia City, between Lyon and Washoe counties, including six miles along Geiger grade and about seven miles from Silver City up to the Comstock.
