After 31 days on the lam, lost dog 'Finn' found at Carson High baseball fields
On Dec. 28, Finnegan the terrier snuck off into the night while being babysat, clad only in a sweater. In a triumph of community help, people from Carson City came out in droves to help locate the little lost dog, and Monday their efforts paid off.
Sightings of Finnegan, also known as "Finn" among friends, came in fairly often, but he was skittish and scared and always ended up getting away from his helpful neighbors.
But his owner and the group of people called Team Kizzy (named after a previous runaway who was found at 31 days as well) never gave up hope.
Finally after hours of searching, posting flyers and a few close calls, Finn was found at the Carson High dugouts and allowed his rescuers to approach him and check his tag.
Here is an update posted by his mom:
We are just beyond thrilled to be reunited with our precious bundle of fur! The kindness this community has displayed is beyond words.
We are coordinating a Finn Meet-n-Greet for this weekend.
This evening we got a call that the baseball coaches at Carson High School had discovered Finn curled up at the top of the steps to one of their buildings. He was skittish but allowed them to check his license plate tag. I was completely freaking out telling myself to not get myself too hopeful in case it was prank #4 (yes I’ve encountered some cruel people over this past month).
I arrived just as other searchers did and hesitated to proceed. I was just too scared to hear it wasn’t him. Then I heard the shout “it’s him, it’s Finn” followed by crying as I was running up the stairs to see for myself. I fell to the floor, scooped him up and started sobbing. But I wasn’t alone in my tears of joy and relief.
Several other searchers started showing up and everyone was crying and beyond belief that after all the hours and hours of searching and middle of the night texts that he was actually in front of us. Searchers finally (were given) the chance to meet him in person.
We brought him to the vet to have him checked. He only lost one pound. His bloodwork will be back in a day or two. He’s on special food to re-nourish him along with probiotics. The vet was amazed to not be able to find even a minor cut on him. He is pretty dirty and matted and needing a spa day.
Finn was excited to see his house. He is now sleeping on the sofa between us. He’s had some bad dreams and is anxious about sounds but we will love him back to normal. Hopefully he doesn’t mind the cat litter box since he’s never allowed outside again (just kidding).
A million thank yous to everyone who has prayed, dreamt, searched, sat waiting, purchased cameras, purchased traps, printed and/or hung flyers, rehung posters, went door to door, provided traps, cameras, food, leant items like traps, allowed posters in their businesses, driven around, walked around, called with possible sightings, spread the word, cared, allowed traps in their yards, checked traps all hours of the night, texted, and to the understanding police as we were called on for being suspicious in the dark (placing traps).
As for the infamous sweater, he left it on his adventure trail somewhere. He will get to pick out a new one! Perhaps he needs a super hero cape!
