Carson City's Sierra Lutheran High, Fellowship of Christian Athletes deliver 'Trees For Troops'
Christmas came early for the Marines of the Mountain Warfare Training Center in the Coleville, Bridgeport area of Mono County on Sunday as volunteers from Carson City area's Sierra Lutheran High School and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes delivered donated Christmas trees to the troops there.
Working in collaboration with base Chaplain Christopher Morgan and base leadership, SLHS and FCA volunteers loaded 75 Christmas trees into a Marine transport vehicle at the FCA Christmas Tree lot in Carson City and made door-to-door deliveries to Marines and their families at base housing in Coleville and in the surrounding area.
"On behalf of Tim Plummer and the great team with FCA, it was our absolutely joy to partner with Chaplain Morgan on this important outreach," SLHS Director of School Development Brian Underwood said. "In the Book of John 15:13, we are reminded that "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends," and our troops prepare every day with that potential in mind. To remember them in this small way as we think about the blessing of freedom they provide is the least we can do."
The Trees For Troops is still in need of financial donations to complete the project, which can be supported by visiting Its GoFundMe Trees For Troops, MWTC page here. For additional information, please call Sierra Lutheran High School at 267-1921.
