Proceeds support the non-profit Friends of Snowshoe Thompson and Town of Genoa- Concerts on the Green”. Donations at the door are $12 adults ($5 for children under 12). Doors open at 6:15PM with a cash bar. First come, first seated. Performance starts at 7PM.
Chautauqua performers Frank Tortorich, Steve Hale, and Kim Copel will take you back in time in period costume to make the stories of these Nevada pioneers come alive.
William and Melissa Coray (Melissa Coray Peak is named in her honor)were among the first western pioneer emigrants to the California gold fields. Sergeant Coray of the Mormon Battalion helped build the first wagon road over Carson Pass (on Highway 88).
Snowshoe Thompson made his home near Genoa and spent each winter for 20 years carrying the mail on his handmade skis over the Sierra snow back and forth to Placerville. Stagecoach driver Charley Parkhurst belonged to the extraordinary class of daring road warriors of their day. One contemporary described stage drivers as the “class that has inspired me with the most terror and reverence”.
