Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada to honor Carson City leader at annual awards dinner
CJ Manthe from Carson City will be honored in November by the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada at the 16th annual Triumphant: Celebrating Women in Leadership Awards Dinner.
Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada is pleased to announce this year’s Triumphant: Celebrating Women in Leadership Dinner honorees. Among the 6 women, each representing one of 6 Girl Scout focus areas who will be honored, CJ Manthe will be recognized as the 2018 Financial Literacy Honoree on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018 at the dinner held at the Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks.
“Triumphant is a stunning evening of recognition for the women who are making an impact and a difference right here in our community,” said Pam Czyz, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada in a news release. “Our Girl Scouts see themselves in these female role models, and they are inspired to be change makers and champions in their community, country and world.”
Carson City area residents can purchase tickets now by navigating to www.gssn.org/triumphant. Hotel rooms are available at the Sparks Nugget; visit www.nuggetcasinoresort.com for more information.
This month, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval appointed Manthe to the Public Utilities Commission. Manthe will take the seat of current Commissioner Bruce Breslow who will retire effective Nov. 2.
Prior to this, she was appointed as the Director of the Department of Business and Industry by Gov. Sandoval in 2017. She administers the state’s industrial revenue development bond program and has a major role in the budgets of all 13 state divisions; she also has operational oversight of those 13 diverse state divisions and 12 boards, commissions and advisory committees.
Beyond her career at the Department of Business and Industry, CJ spearheaded an educational tool on financial literacy for home buying – a mandated training in order to qualify for down-payment assistance. Over the course of its assistance programs, CJ’s tool has helped 16,000 families benefit from down-payment assistance, with $3.3 billion in mortgages and $137 million in down-payment money – almost 1,000 of those being military families and 99 percent being first-time homebuyers.
Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada offers its congratulations to CJ and the rest of its 2018 Triumphant Honorees: Dr. Kristen Averyt from the Desert Research Institute (Environmental Leadership & Responsibility); Dr. Pamela Netuschil from Love Yourself, Gentle Healing Therapies: A Concierge Practice for Women (Healthy Living); Karen D. Purcell from PK Electrical, Inc. (Entrepreneurship); Mary Kerner from the Rural Nevada Development Corporation (Community Service); and Ruby B. Johnson from the U.S. Forest Service and When You Believe Foundation STEM.
