Carson High Baseball: Senators protect home field, crush Fallon 8-2
Baseball season is in full swing, as the Carson Senators took the field for their home debut Thursday looking to start the season on the right foot with a victory against the Fallon Greenwave.
Carson soon got their home crowd into it as right fielder Landon Truesdale made a spectacular diving grab to save a potential game changing play in the first inning.
Fallon soon took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning, as a sacrifice groundout with the bases loaded put the Greenwave in comfortable position.
But Carson answered back with a leadoff double from Truesdale, putting the Senators within striking distance. Jesse Lopez drove Truesdale home with an RBI single to tie the game.
But the Senators weren't finished, as RBI doubles by third baseman Abel Carter and starting pitcher Jared Barnard put the Senators in the driver's seat. First baseman Colby Zemp added an RBI single that capped a 5 hit, 5 run inning for the Senators.
Barnard kept the pressure on the Greenwave offense as he kept the bases empty for 2 straight innings with a variety of pitches. The bottom of the fourth inning highlighted more of the same for the Senators. With runners on the corners, a balk by Fallon advanced the runners putting Carson up 6-1. Two more runs scored in the fourth, as Carson expanded upon their lead, 8-1.
Fallon had a mini rally of their own during the top of the 5th, but it was too much too late for the Greenwave. As Carson walked away victorious, 8-2. After the game, Carter briefly spoke about their flawless home debut victory.
"We killed it out there, it was an exciting win for our home debut. I enjoyed it," he said.
Along with his impressive catch, Truesdale went 2 for 4 with a double, single, and stolen base that put the offense into hyperdrive. Jesse Lopez went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and 2 singles.
Abel Carter also went 2 for 4, with a double and triple along with 2 RBI's. Jared Barnard had quite the game from the mound and the plate. Pitching a full 5 innings giving up only 2 runs on 4 hits and 7 strikeouts.
From the plate, Barnard added a monster 2 run double during the bottom of the fourth. With their offense and defense clicking on all cylinders, the Senators may be a force to be reckoned with throughout the season.
