Reno Jazz Orchestra Brings the Funk of James Brown to Town
James Brown brought his funk to America with his hit Cold Sweat and the Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) brings the funk to the Nugget’s Celebrity Showroom, Saturday, February 27th, to celebrate their new CD “Bring Me The Funk of James Brown”.
This high energy night on the town will feature the Reno Jazz Orchestra’s 18 piece big band and special guest stars performing James Brown hits such as Living in America, The Big Payback, and Cold Sweat, as well as other funk greats such as Tower of Power’s What is Hip and Soul Vaccination.
“Funk caught fire throughout the jazz and pop world during the 70's and 80's and its funkiness continues on today,” said Chuck Reider, Music Director for the RJO. “We knew it was time to bring James' funk to our audience, not only his music, but those that took to the funk such as Herbie Hancock, Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye, and of course Tower of Power. “
With the help of featured vocalists Trey Stone, Jackie Landrum, Pat Esters, and Maurice Allen, the RJO band, and arrangers Hans Halt, Bill Hecht, Jim Garaventa, and Chuck Reider, the funk came to life on the RJO’s most recent CD “Bring Me The Funk of James Brown”, and is ready to heat things up in the Celebrity Showroom at the Nugget Casino Resort starting at 8:00 p.m.
Ticket price is $20 which includes at $5 discount off of the CD at the event; a $3 Venue Fee will be added to purchases on line. Visit www.NuggetCasinoResort.com or call 800 648 1177.
