Carson City Pooch brings home gold from famous Westminster Dog Show

Carson City's own Ryker the Spinone Italiano won his Breed at the Westminster Dog Show earlier this week. There were a total of 13 Spinoni entered to compete this year and Ryker brought home the gold with best in his breed.

This isn't Ryker's first big win at Westminster though, as he is a return champion.

Carson City's Rebecca Ostrander overcomes brain tumor, set to graduate from UNLV

Obstacles are nothing new for Carson City native Rebecca Ostrander.

Ostrander, 21, suffered a brain tumor shortly after her 18th birthday. She was forced to spend most of her senior year of high school in hospitals and physical therapy recovery centers.

In the fall of 2018, the Carson City Board of Supervisors approved a plan submitted by Sheriff Furlong to fund a Traffic Enforcement Unit in the community. The Sheriff justified his proposal by evidence of rising accident rates and fatalities of both drivers and pedestrians in the area.

Volunteers remove 7,000 pounds of trash Monday from Carson City open space

Carson City area citizens spent their MLK Day in the canyons near East Silver Saddle Ranch cleaning up dumpsites. In total, more than 50 volunteers removed 7,080 pounds of trash from the natural area. Items of all kinds were taken out of the canyons including plastic bottles, tires, yard trimmings, toys, and even kitchen sinks.
