Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Sunday to a gas leak in the 900 block of North Stewart.

The call came into dispatch at around 9:30 a.m. The gas leak was confirmed and fire department personnel worked to get it clamped. Traffic in the area of Valley and Stewart streets was re-directed. Southwest Gas has been notified.

CARSON CITY — Following an earthquake which hit the Carson City area on Friday, March 20, the Nevada Department of Transportation inspected bridges for potential damage. No bridges were found to have visible damage relating to the earthquake.

One person died of gunshot wounds Saturday evening in Gardnerville and those involved have been detained as part of the investigation, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

UPDATE: The USGS adjusted the Saturday evening earthquake to a 3.2 magnitude.

A second earthquake struck Carson City Saturday night, just one day after a 4.5 magnitude earthquake shook the region, breaking glass and setting off burglar alarms throughout the city.

According to USGS, the earthquake was a 3.5 and struck 5km NE of Indian Hills at 7:53 p.m.

The First Judicial District Court and the Carson City Justice/Municipal Court has issued Administrative Orders for the Carson City Courthouse, Juvenile Court, Juvenile Detention Center and Juvenile Services to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and safeguard the public and employees.

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and at the close of the first week since Nevada Gov. Sisolak ordered school sites and non-essential businesses to close, what may not be known to the general public is the governor has identified public schools as an essential service.

A 24-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 500 block of N Street Thursday morning for two felony child abuse offenses, and two gross misdemeanor offenses for child neglect / endangerment.

CARSON CITY — According to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s February 2020 economic report, employment in Nevada is down 1,000 jobs over the month but up 18,300 over the year, a growth rate of 1.3 percent. This marks the first time since July 2012 that Nevada has grown at a slower rate than the national average.

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Thursday for suspicion of lewdness with a child under the age of 16.

University of Nevada, Reno has implemented plans, having closed for the next 30 days due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Nevada governor's procedures for all schools, state colleges and non-essential employees and school operations.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will be joining forces with other law enforcement agencies statewide focusing on speeding violations from March 20-30.

Light snow fell across parts of western Nevada and the northern Sierra overnight. The heaviest snow of several inches fell along the Sierra Front around Carson City and Minden, south of Reno and the Tahoe basin from Highway 50 south to Markleeville. Other areas saw a light snowfall and water on the roadways has frozen.
