RENO, NV – June 19, 2012 – Western Bariatric Institute, a leading weight management clinic headquartered in Reno, Nevada, and the Surgery Center of Reno, recently announced that local resident, Lacey Stultz, is the winner of their annual Free Lap-Band Procedure Contest. This is quite an honor as Lacey was selected from 446 entries! First, healthcare and medical professionals selected six top finalists, and then the public voted on the winner from videos posted online.

Carson City Democratic Womens Club Monthly Meeting

Carson City, NV, July 10, 2012: Karin Mracek, Communications Manager of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and graduate of the 2011 Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute, is the lucky winner of four tickets to a San Francisco Giants game. Karin was “honored to make a donation to help the Leadership Class of 2012 raise funds to refurbish the Media Room at the Carson City Senior Center and is thrilled to have won tickets to see the Giants play.”

Carson City Road Report for July 9-16

There will be nightly lane closures on US 395 from the junction of US 50W (Spooner) to 1st Street in Minden, Sunday through Thursday, between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. There will be flagger controlled traffic.

There will be lane closures in the southbound direction of US 395 from Eastlake Boulevard in Washoe County to the Carson Street Interchange between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Carson High School Class of '82 - 30 year reunion

Carson High class of '82 is celebrating their 30th reunion. July 13th will start off with a meet and greet at High Sierra Brewery beginning, at 6pm. On July 14th, golf has been set up at Silver Oak Golf Course with tee times beginning at 8:00 am. Dinner, with a live band will follow at that location beginning at 6:00 pm. On Sunday the 15th, family day at Round Hill Beach at Tahoe will complete the activities. More information can be found on Facebook.

“SMART PHONES, SMART PHOTOS”

CARSON CITY, NEVADA-Carson City Library will host Barry Smith, Executive Director of the Nevada Press Association, on Monday, July 23rd at 6:00 PM. Smith will present “Smart Phones, Smart Photos”, an informational program that will provide basic tips for taking photos with a smart phone. This program is geared toward novice users and will offer information about apps for editing photos, as well as storing and saving photos.

Construction will continue at the intersection of E. Fifth Street and Airport Road. The westbound lane of E. Fifth Street will be closed in the vicinity of the intersection and there will be flagger controlled traffic. Minimal delays are possible.

Carson City employee publishes second book

I recently was taking a trip back to the North East and needed a few books for my long flight from Reno. After hearing about Bonners Fairy through Elizabeth’s husband Dave, whom I work with, I was intrigued. He gave me a copy before I left and after reading the first one I was hooked! Soon to follow, I was anxious to start the second book, A New Kind of Battle. Once I got my hands on a copy, it took me less than 24 hours to read. I was eager to find out what our favorite characters were up to, and how things were panning out in Bonners Ferry and Roan.

Carson City School Board meeting for June 26

The Carson City School District is holding a school board meeting on Tuesday, June 26 at 7 P.M., located at Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William Street.

The Board of Trustees of Carson City School District and State of Nevada will discuss a Resolution to favor the Final Amended Budget for the Fiscal Year 2011-2012. This discussion will include topics such as revisions and certified enrollment, and audited fund balances. Updates on the phase one school bond projects, and functions and faculty features will also be discussed during the meeting.

How to File a Small Claim Case

CARSON CITY, NEVADA-Carson City Library and Nevada Legal Services have teamed together to provide free legal education clinics and workshops every 4th Thursday of each month. The next one will be on Thursday, June 28th. Each workshop will provide general instructions and assistance regarding the completion of self-help forms for those who are self-represented litigants. A Notary Public will also be available. The clinic will run from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Following the education clinic a workshop will be held from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. This month’s topic: How to File a Small Claim Case.

Carson City Airport "Capital Wings" open house

Carson City Airport "Capital Wings" Open House - 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. FREE to the public. The Open House takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway. Activities include flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, plane and hot air balloon rides, food and beverages in a day filled with family activities.

Proceeds raised through raffle and t-shirt sales will be donated to local area non-profit organizations. The event kicks off at 8:00 A.M. with a pancake breakfast provided by Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).

Children's Museum announces new Executive Director

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada’s Board of Directors is proud to introduce our new Executive Director, Luana Olsen.

Luana has extensive administrative and bookkeeping experience and has taught in the public schools for 12 years. Lu received her Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Elementary Education and English Literature in Minnesota and holds a current Nevada State Teaching License as well as a Master’s Degree in Computer Education which she received in California.
