National Night Out brings neighborhoods to Mills Park on August 6

Meet up with your neighbors at Mills Park on Tuesday, August 6 for the 11th annual National Night Out at Mills Park hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. is aimed to heighten awareness about crime, substance abuse, safety and violence. Citizens can learn what they can do to reduce crime and increase personal safety, while having fun. Meet the heroes of law enforcement and public safety. Explore equipment.

The event is free - games, music, food, fun for all!

Stargaze at Washoe Lake State Park on August 10

Discover the wonders of star and planet gazing. Astronomy experts Jay Lawson and Adam Kremers will set up their high-powered telescopes to view the Venus, the Milky Way galaxy, Saturn and its rings and moons as well as many other fascinating objects in the night sky.

Warren Engine Company No. 1: In service for 150 years in Carson City

On Aug. 12, 1863, the Warren Engine Co. No. 1 volunteer fire department had its first trial by fire.

Fire broke out about 9:30 p.m. that day at the Indian Queen Hotel at Ormsby and Fourth streets in Carson City. The newly formed fire department put out the blaze in two hours. Two buildings were consumed by the fire and a third was demolished to stop the fire’s spread.

Annual Carson City Historical Society Ice Cream Social this Saturday

With tradition, community spirit and the launch of the Carson City jazz festival in mind, residents are welcome to a cool summer evening with music and sweet treats as the Carson City Historical Society hosts its annual Ice Cream Social this Saturday.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. and feature live music, mountain men and quilters. The event takes place at Foreman-Roberts House Park, 1207 North Carson Street. The event is free to get in and costs $3 to enjoy the ice cream and cookies.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office invites the general public and press to a conference on Thursday that will address accidents and fatalities on Highway 50.

Flight from Reno blows two tires while landing at Chicago's O'Hare

Passengers on an American Airlines flight from Reno had to get off their plane on a portable staircase at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago on Monday after the aircraft blew two tires while landing. No one was injured.

“Feds Feed Families” a food drive to benefit the hungry in our community has kicked off again for the summer. In Carson City, federal employees from USDA Rural Development, the Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Federal Highway Administration, and the U.S. Geological Survey will be volunteering and collecting donated food in front of Grocery Outlet, at 1831 N. Carson, on Aug. 3 and Aug. 10, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. Grocery Outlet owner Dave Cox provides discounts on purchases for food drives.

Green Living Festival

Accident at Wells Fargo Bank

A motorist suffered minor injuries after accidently driving their SUV into Wells Fargo Bank on Stewart Street in Carson City Monday morning.

The accident happened at around 11 a.m. The motorist, believed to be an older adult, wasn't seriously injured likely because the airbag deployed. At the time of this report the motorist had declined going to the hospital.
