I spent most of January studying the faces of each Senatorial and Assembly lawmaker. I also tried to force myself to understand some of the bills, but I figured it would be better to just get the idea of it and learn along the way (which I did, and it worked). Reporting on big Nevada politics is new to me, and I’m eager to learn more.

BLM: Wild horse bait trapping in Carson City meant public safety concerns

CARSON CITY — On Jan. 23, 2013, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Carson City District Office began removing 11 problem wild horses on the outskirts of Carson City, Nev. The horses are a part of the Pine Nut Mountains herd management area (HMA) that is adjacent to Deer Run Road in Carson City. These horses routinely cross the Carson River into River View City Park, where the BLM has received several complaints of people feeling threatened by the wild horses.

Carson City Library Explore the World series focuses on Chile

Carson City Library will present Explore Chile at Your Library on Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m. in the library auditorium. Danilo A. Muñoz Ormeño was born in the city of Los Angeles in the beautiful country of Chile.

In Chile, he studied theater at Viña del Mar. He came to the USA in 2010 and lives in Carson City, Nevada. Danilo is working in the culinary arts.

State Health Division Awards Three Grants for Nevada Students

The Nevada State Health Division has awarded three planning grants to Nevada organizations to develop new or enhance existing comprehensive school-based health centers. Approximately 19,000 students from three Nevada counties — Lyon, Washoe and Clark — stand to benefit from the grants. Grant monies will also be used to enhance school emergency preparedness.

Grant recipients — Healthy Communities Coalition, Nevada Board of Regents and Community Health Alliance Foundation — identify main schools for the SBHCs, and arrange for several “feeder schools” to participate.

Sealing criminal records is focus Thursday of Carson City Library education clinic

Carson City Library and Nevada Legal Services continue to provide free legal education clinics and workshops every 4th Thursday of each month. This month, Thursday, Feb. 28, the Self Help Forms Completion Clinic will begin at 1:30 p.m.

This workshop will provide general instructions and assistance regarding the completion of self-help forms for those who are self-represented litigants. A Notary Public will also be available.

February’s Education Clinic will begin at 3:30 p.m. Sealing Criminal Records is the topic for the Education Clinic.

UPDATE 10AM: Today, the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign, a national coalition, joined forces with a Nevada State Senator and local community leaders in and around Carson City to harshly criticize the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for refusing to work with local residents to keep a small group of wild horses free. The mustang herd at issue travels between federal land in the Pine Nut Herd Management Area (HMA) and a rural area outside Carson City.

Carson Public School Drug Policies Behind the Times

Today I attended a Chamber luncheon focused on [our] children's use of drugs and alcohol, and the ENDLESS ways the signs of/actual drugs are hidden. I was blown away with the amount of information given in such a short time, but the most disturbing moment was announced with applause.
