NV Energy hosts workshop for small and diverse businesses

NV Energy is sponsoring a workshop in Reno for small and diverse businesses interested in providing goods and services to Nevada’s largest electric utility. The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the company’s Sierra Plaza Auditorium at 6100 Neil Road.
Partnering with NV Energy to present the Strategies for Winning Contracts workshop are the Nevada Small Business Development Center (NSBDC), the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Nevada Office of Economic Development.

Would you drive 85? Nevada bill would raise the speed limit
Submitted by editor on Wed, 02/27/2013 - 7:48amEarlier this week, State Senator Don Gustavson introduced Senate Bill 191. It would allow the Nevada Department of Transportation to raise the speed limit wherever it determines that speed can be done safely.
The idea of getting there faster is appealing to anyone who has driven the long, seemingly never-ending stretches of lonely Nevada highway.
FISH refinances buildings, exceeds 210,000 meals, plans fundraiser

Auction of recluse's gold fortune nets $3.5 million to pay taxes
Submitted by editor on Wed, 02/27/2013 - 7:39amNearly half of the $7.4 million in gold coins found in the house of a reclusive man were auctioned off Tuesday, and one of the winning bidders said they will be put on the open market.
The auction, conducted in the heavily guarded Carson City courthouse, yielded $3.5 million, or about $13,000 higher than the closing price on the market of gold. It will satisfy about $800,000 in government estate taxes and fees.
