Traveling Vietnam Wall at Mills Park through Nevada Day Weekend

The Traveling Vietnam Wall at Mills Park in Carson City honors our fallen servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice and paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom and duty.
The arrival of the Traveling Vietnam Wall marks the Battle Born Days Celebration highlighted during this year's Nevada Day, with a salute to America's military that includes living history re-enactments, tributes and military honors, aircraft and weapon displays, a USO dance and Bomber Girl Pin-Up Pageant.

Traveling Vietnam memorial stirs emotions in Carson City

Rick Arnold’s voice caught as he described the first time he saw the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
“The first thing that struck me was how little I knew of the people on the Wall,” said Arnold, president of Vietnam Veterans of American, Chapter 388 in Carson City. “Yes, there are names I know. Names ...”
He stopped, but he wasn’t ready to quit talking. He started again, his voice softer, huskier. “But so many names I know nothing about,” he finished.

Carson Library Refuses to Answer Simple Question

While watching the Giants' baseball game last night, I searched for an alternative during a commercial break.

Tuning into the local public access station, I saw the Carson City Library Board meeting in progress. Perhaps what would be said could help clarify the debate about building a new library.

Graham Blog: What Can Be Done To Protect Pitchers On Batted Balls?

Event Date:
October 25, 2012 (All day)

A batted ball comebacker to a pitcher is the single most dangerous situation in baseball that results more often than not in serious injury.

Can enough steps be taken to protect the pitcher in baseball from a batted ball comebacker that they cannot react fast enough to? Most pitchers throw a pitch with their follow through momentum turning their body to one side, on one foot, leaving them completely vulnerable and mostly defenseless to a screaming batted ball coming right at them.

Interest rate is now at an all time low for program designed to help you buy a home

A popular, new program offered by the Nevada Rural Housing Authority (NRHA) is making home ownership even more affordable. Through the Home at Last™ Access program, qualified home buyers receive a generous 4 percent down payment grant, which does not have to be paid back.

Now, the program is offering even lower mortgage interest rates on a conventional, 30-year fixed rate loan. Through participating lenders, the interest rates on FHA, VA or USDA-RD home mortgages have dropped from 3.75 percent to the current rate of 3.5 percent, which is an historic low.

Tased teen's Carson City mom speaks out (video)

The call from Crystal Sexton's daughter's Carson Middle School came as a complete shock. “I've been in tears the last couple of days. I can't sleep. I'm worried about her,” Sexton said.
District leaders said 14-year-old Brianna was tased because the Sherriff’s school resource female deputy couldn't restrain the cheerleader while the teen was being arrested for disrupting the classroom.
