In U10 league action Thursday at Edmonds Park, the CarsonNow.org Pink Diamonds earned their first win of the year over the Gilson Auto Body/Carson Nugget Twisters, 18-10.
During the 4-inning contest, the pitchers for the Twisters were: Ashley Wood, 2 hits, 9 walks, 4 strike outs, 9 runs; Faith Bigelow, no hits, 4 walks, 2 strike outs and 5 runs; and, Abi Golik, no hits, 2 strike outs, 5 walks and 4 runs. For the Pink Diamonds, Annabelle Crawford, 3 hits, 5 walks, 1 strike out, 5 runs; and, Tezia Boice, 6 hits, 1 walk, 4 strike outs, and 5 runs.
Nevada unemployment drops to 12 percent; Carson City down to 12.4
Submitted by admin on Fri, 04/20/2012 - 9:55amFigures released today by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation show the state's unemployment rate in March dropped to 12 percent overall, with Carson City down to 12.4 percent.
Unemployment dropped .3 percent statewide over the previous month, and 1.6 percent over the last year.
The jobs picture in Carson City, while showing improvement, is lagging slightly behind the statewide average, with a .2 percent drop in unemployment over February, and 1.1 percent drop over the last year.

Library Board recommends Carson City Center to go on ballot
Submitted by admin on Thu, 04/19/2012 - 9:13pmThe Carson City Library Board of Trustees voted tonight to make a recommendation to the Carson City Board of Supervisors that the City Center Project be put on the ballot in November.
The board voted unanimously to forward the recommendation without a specific funding request, leaving that to the supervisors. Earlier this week, Supervisor Shelly Aldean said they are looking at a possible quarter-cent sales tax increase to fund the City Center Project, aka Nugget Project.
Tahoe Family Solutions Receives $25K Health Care Grant

Tahoe Family Solutions services in providing affordable psychiatric care and family counseling were rated as a top priority by UWNNS’s board and volunteers.

The soaring atrium of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center at the University of Nevada, Reno, which housed a 9.5-foot tree made entirely of old books during the holiday season, is now the site of another display using recycled goods. In celebration of Earth Day, Knowledge Center employees have erected a 7-feet-tall, 8-feet-wide “N,” constructed with 1,580 recycled water bottles collected in the center’s recycling receptacles.

Crime Log: Carson City man arrested for felony probation violation

Carson City Sherrif's deputies arrested Terry Alan Nicholson, 53, at approximately noon yesterday. Nicholson was arrested for a failure to appear warrant in his name and a felony probation violation.
Officers also arrested the following individuals on misdemeanor allegations:
- A 43-year-old Carson City woman for not possessing a valid drivers' license, DUI, and failure to maintain a lane.
- A 27-year-old Carson City woman for a contempt of court warrant in her name.
