Good morning Carson City, and happy June! We have a ton of events going on today in our beloved capital city, with the June wine walk, the first day of the farmer’s market, a brew fest at Fuji park, and more! With a high of 75, it’s shaping up to finally start to feel like summer (knock on wood).

Saturday, June 1

Brewery Arts Center Clean Up Day in Carson City 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Brewery Arts Center is looking to enlist a few great volunteers to help this Saturday, June 1 clean up and beautify the two block campus as we prepare for the Levitt AMP Carson City free summer concert series presented by The Change Companies which begins on June 22 and Wheeled Food Wednesday which begins on June 19.The last two years we have had thousands of people come to the arts campus each week and because we are a very small staff with a very large campus, we are asking for the help of the community to help us make a safe and inviting place to build community through the arts.

18th annual Oodles of Noodles comes to Dayton. 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at downtown Dayton, NV. Come and bring the family for the 18th Annual Oodles of Noodles Festival and Pasta Cookoff, Saturday, June 1, 2019, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in historic downtown Dayton. Pancake breakfast, food vendors, pet parade, bounce house, craft vendors and more!Organized by the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Carson Toyota and Dick Campagni Auto Group, WEBstaurant Store, Nevada Appeal and Greater Nevada Credit Union. Capital Odyssey Relay from Carson City to Reno 3 to 4 p.m. This one day Odyssey relay run will join the Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay in progress for the last 12 legs of the RTO course. The relay is from Carson City to Reno. Teams of typically 2-6 runners will be running 54 miles in 12 legs.

Carson City Ghost Walk Tours return for 27th year (7 p.m.). The tours are located at the McFadden Plaza on Curry St. adjacent to the Fox BrewPub. For the 27th year, the spookiest historical tour of the capital city is returning this Saturday, June 1 with the Carson City Ghost Walk. The Carson City Ghost Walk is a seasonal historical tour of Carson City’s west side, a walking history lesson with a touch of the supernatural. All tickets are $15 in advance, or $20 at the time of the event.

Wendell Huffman to speak at Dangberg Home Ranch (all day). Located at 1450 State Route Hwy 88 in Minden, NV. Wendell Huffman of the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City will be speaking about “Railroading in Carson Valley: The V&T’s Minden Line and the Transcontinental Railroad in Nevada”He will be here on Saturday, June 1st. Please bring your own seating for all events. No dogs at events; legitimate service animals only. The park is located at 1450 Hwy 88, ¼ mile north of the Carson Valley Veterinary Hospital.

30th annual Kids Fishing Derby in Gardnerville (all day). The event is located at Lampe Park, 1324 Waterloo Ln. in Gardnerville, NV. This event is a favorite among the kids. You must pre-register. There is a 2 fish maximum for each kid. Tagged fish win prizes. Volunteers are always needed, wanted and appreciated. Carson City hosts National Trails Day event near Ash Canyon. 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Ash Canyon Rd. Saturday, June 1 is National Trails Day. Come observe how trails get built, hear about Carson City’s Open Space Program, and learn some natural and cultural history on Carson City’s most recent Open Space acquisition near Ash Canyon.We will be meeting at the Ash Canyon water tanks at 8 a.m. There will be signage directing participants to the parking area. Shuttles will also be available at the end of Ash Canyon Road near Wellington West for those who need transportation to the water tanks.

Strive for Life fundraiser at Mills Park. 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at 1111 E. William St. in Carson City. For more than 30 years, Great Strides – the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fundraising event – has supported the Foundation’s mission to cure cystic fibrosis (CF) and raise awareness for this rare, genetic, life-shortening disease that makes it difficult to breathe and shortens lives. Great Strides provides a fantastic opportunity for family, friends, students, and colleagues to come together and make a difference in the lives of people with CF.

Carson City Farmers Market begins this Saturday. 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Curry St. in Carson City. The Carson Farmers Market will kick off the 2019 season this Saturday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at 3rd and Curry streets. The Farmers Market will run until Saturday, Sept. 28.Enjoy fresh-picked produce, local meats, fresh flowers, artisan baked goods, jams, honey, crafts, live music and Carson City’s smiling faces.

Spring Vintage Market at Due Sorella. 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 202 N. Curry St. in Carson City. Save the day to spend with us and our 35 vendors, who work and source all year to bring you everything you love for your home and garden. This market will feature live music and food as well. Train to Virginia City from Carson City. Event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Prices for the ride range from $25-$55. Rediscover Nevada’s rich history in mining and mill on the V&T Carson City-Virginia City route as you meander through tunnels, canyons and mining towns aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive. This relaxing all-day train excursion is fully narrated with historical facts and anecdotes. Departing from Carson City’s Eastgate Depot, the 24-mile round-trip tour includes a fun 3.5-hour stopover in historic Virginia City, where you can stroll the boardwalks and explore restaurants, shops, saloons, museums, mines and more. Rock Crawlers & Brews comes to Fuji Park in Carson City. 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. The second annual Rock Crawlers and Brews fest will be held once again at the Fuji Park fairgrounds in Carson City this Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.This family-friendly event is a rock crawler truck show hosted by Shoe Tree Brewing Company. In addition to beers on tap, vendor booths from local businesses will be joining the festivities to sell their wares and visit with the community.

Carson City River Float and Tree Wrap at Ambrose Open Space. 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 281-309 N. Deer Run. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites residents in Carson City to come float the Carson River and wrap cottonwoods on Saturday, June 1. Participants should meet at Ambrose Open Space, 281-309 N Deer Run Rd, Carson City. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Family Day at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center. 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1477 U.S. Hwy. 395 in Gardnerville, NV. Join us for Family Day, the first Saturday of each month at the Carson Valley Museum and Cultural Center! It is free admission with plenty of fun and carnival rides.

State Capitol Guided Tours at the Nevada State Capitol. Two separate tours will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every Saturday. Tours typically take an hour and include both the exterior of the building, nearby memorials as well as the interior of the building. Tours are available for up to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The building includes numerous historic artifacts that range from portraits of past Nevada governors to sculptures to historical items showcased during Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration. The Capitol remains open to the public Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Guided tours of up to 20 people can be arranged in advance by calling the Nevada State Museum’s Education Program at 775-687-4810, ext. 237.

Wine Walk at downtown Carson City. 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 101 N. Carson St. in Carson City. The Downtown Wine Walk is a must not miss! Held the First Saturday of every month from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. For just $15 (ticket price supports the Downtown Business Association) you’ll receive a commemorative wine glass and endless reasons to stroll through Downtown sipping and tasting the afternoon away. Bring your wine walk glass with the Carson City Logo on it and pay only $12. You can purchase tickets at the following locations: The Carson Nugget, Cactus Jack’s, Carson Jewelry and Loan, Bella Fiore, and Touched by Angels.

Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson St. in Carson City. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 week session or $45 drop ins.

Junior Ranger Program: Wildlife Walk. The wildlife walk takes place at Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. This event is for ages 5-13. Register online to save a spot and adventure guide.

Book signing by Sandie La Nae. 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 201 W. King St. in Carson City. Sandie La Nae will be the featured author Saturday, June 1 at Morley's Books located at 201 W. King Street in Carson City.La Nae, author of 19 books, will be featuring her volume written about the historic building that Morley's Books is housed in, "Wells Fargo Office." Other books Sandie will be selling of her historic volumes include Buckland Station, St. Charles Hotel, Genoa Bar, Alpine Hotel in Markleeville, and those from her "WEIRD" series about Carson City, Reno, and Virginia City.

Crowns and Tiaras Big Hat Tea fundraiser at Governor's Mansion. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. located at 606 Mountain St. in Carson City. The 5th annual Royalty “Crowns and Tiaras” Big Hat High Tea, put on by the Nevada Nurses Foundation, will be held Saturday, June 1 at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City.A traditional English Tea will be served, with food, tea, desserts, and entertainment. The Nevada Nurses Foundation's "Crowns and Tiaras" Big Hat High Tea will have live performances from very talented local artists, a delicious meal catered by The Bakery Gallery (Yerington's famous bakery), an enchanting ambiance, wonderful silent auction gifts, exciting raffle prizes including a $500 Visa gift card, $500 Rising Sun Organique gift card, $300 Southwest Airline voucher, and a GoPro, valued at $200.

Have a Heart Celebration at Casino Fandango. 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. located at 3800 S. Carson St. Friends In Service Helping (FISH) is hosting their annual fundraiser, Have a Heart Celebration. This event will feature celebrity waiters and helps FISH give a hand up to those in need in our community by providing for the hungry and homeless. Mingle with local celebrities as they compete for your tips! There will be two dinner services, 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets include dinner and dessert, there will be a cash bar available. Tickets are $65 per person or $600 for a table of 10. Tickets are available online.

Nevada Mining Poetry Dinner at The Canvas Cafe. 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 110 N. C St in Virginia City. Join the folks at Canvas Cafe for a poetry reading of historical Comstock and Nevada mining poems. Enjoy a refined selection of hors d’oeuvre and libations. Please reserve your table for the night.

Live Music at Glen Eagles Restaurant. 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 3700 N. Carson St., Carson City. Enjoy live music that is sure to make you get up and dance every Wednesday-Saturday starting at 6:30 to 9 p.m.

After a hard day, four miners decide they’re going to embrace life and spend the night with the beautiful Julia Bulette. Unfortunately, she has plans to attend an opera that night. All might be lost for the poor men, but Mark Twain has a plan. His “plan” is to have these men compete – whoever can prove to Julia they love opera the best will be her date for the show, and her company for the night. The four miners embark on a hilarious and heartwarming adventure to impress a Comstock Girl!

Sunday, June 2

Muscle Powered Weekly Bicycle Ride. 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Fremont Elementary School in Carson City. Typically, this ride consists of two 10-15 minute loops with varying pace depending on rider level. This is a “no drop” ride so no one will be left behind. All riders must have a bicycle in safe working condition, a helmet, and closed toed shoes. Bilingual Storytime in Carson City. 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Carson City Library at 900 N. Capital City Community Free Spring Concert: British Invasion. 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 395 S. Carson St. Under the direction of Nick Jacques, the Capital City Community Band will perform its annual “FREE Spring Concert” Sunday, June 2nd, 2019 at 3:00pm, at the amphitheater in the Legislative Mall (in front of the Nevada Supreme Court) on Carson Street, Carson City, Nevada. Kids ages 8-14: Join Skiing is Believing at Western Nevada college for our multidiscplinary sport & fitness camp! Every day of every week, Skiing is Believing staff will help provide a variety of sports for kids to develop their physical skills and promote emotional development through exercise and community service.

After months of thorough community engagement and meticulous deliberation, Douglas County has announced the completion of its new Strategic Plan. This document, which will guide the County's decisions and resource allocation for the next five years, is the result of extensive input from both internal and external stakeholders.

Carson High School Culinary Arts and Early Childhood Education students competed at the three-day state conference last month for Nevada Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. This was the first time the school’s programs participated in the conference. A total of 25 students competed in eight events.

Carson City’s former Board of Supervisor and business owner Stan Jones was posthumously awarded Thursday the Historic Preservation Award for his long time work for downtown Carson City.

Each year, a Historic Preservation Award is awarded by the Historic Resources Commission to Carson City residents or organizations who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to historic preservation.

The Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is today, Thursday, May 2 at the Nevada State Capitol in Carson City. The memorial brings hundreds to the capitol grounds. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

The national issue of suicide — particularly among veterans — touched many people who attended the Walk for Hope on Wednesday morning at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

The new renovations at the Carson City Senior Center opened the opportunity to host art shows to extend enrichment to the senior community. Carson City Senior Center presents “Geographical Divides: Finding Common Ground,” featuring 16 artists who were asked to explore the geographical and cultural differences in Nevada, if such differences truly exist.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.

Green Our Planet will host the second annual Northern Nevada Giant Student Farmers Market on Wednesday, May 15 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Fuji Park on The Park Grass in Carson City. The Northern Nevada Giant Student Farmers Market will feature approximately 10 schools throughout the northern part of the Silver State.

Miller Counseling and Wellness Center began partnering with Douglas Center for Hope and Healing to offer grief support groups for adults in Carson City in 2024. There has been an amazing turnout, and the group appears to be filling a much-needed void in services to our community.
