The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers are one talented bunch and their performance of ‘Yes Virginia: The Musical’ is sure to be a hit with young and old alike.

Ready to break a world record, Carson City? High school senior, Taylor Weddell is organizing an attempt at the World’s Largest Human Christmas Tree for her senior project. Grab everyone you know and head to Carson High at 10 a.m. Bundle up, and get ready for a good time. Hot beverages will be available to help keep you warm.

Hot chocolate, Santa, soup, and song made the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival a success. The annual event co-sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce and the Redevelopment Committee brought young and old downtown to watch the Capitol light up.

A Christmas Fair in Telegraph Square featured entertainment by the Carson Middle School Band, the Carson High Chamber Choir, and the Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers. Craft booths for the kids, vendors, and a roaming Grinch were all a part of the action. Santa’s appearance was the icing on the cake.

I love Carson City. Our downtown makes every season special: flower baskets in the summer, daffodils in springtime, the changing leaves of autumn, and winter means the Nevada Christmas tree at the Capitol. Tonight is the night when the light switch gets flipped. Join Santa and our community tonight at the annual Silver and Snowflakes tree lighting. Enjoy carolers, hot cocoa, and more in Telegraph Square during the Christmas Faire. Don’t miss the talented members of Wild Horse Children’s Theater: they’ll be singing at 4 p.m.

How does a picnic sound? Head to the Capitol Grounds for an afternoon of music beginning with the Champagne Singers at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Reno Video Game Symphony. Bring a chair or blanket, something to snack on, and your friends and family. The Carson City Library is wrapping up its adult summer reading program with a special presentation by adventurer, photographer, cyclist Rick Gunn. Like, did you totally know that Clueless is playing at the Galaxy Theater tonight? Miss out on that? As if.

After the Friday wind and rain, we are supposed to see some clear skies: but don’t quote me on that. You know how the weather here can be. The Third and Curry Farmers Market vendors are tough, though, so your weekly dose of fresh produce will be waiting for you either way. Don’t miss the autumn plant sale at the Greenhouse Project booth. The Carson City Historical Society hosts their second yard sale of the season at the historic Forman-Roberts House on North Carson Street, so have fun treasure hunting.

I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. You’ll want to take a look at the whole list: I’ve only barely scratched the surface.

Sundays are a great day to hit up the Carson City Library now that it’s open seven days a week. A viewing of the movie Persepolis begins at 2 p.m. and is about a young girl during the Iran Revolution in the 1970s. Pop-up Storytime is great choice for younger patrons.

The Fair at Fuji Park and the Silver Dollar Classic at Mills Park are still going strong. While you’re at Mills Park, take a ride on the train: rides begin at noon. Genoa is a great place to spend an afternoon. This month’s Sweet Sippin Sunday features Tequila cocktails and music by Carson’s own, Janera Paxton of the Whitehats. Mozart lovers won’t want to miss TOCATTA at the Shepard in the Sky Church for their Mozart in the Mountains concert.

I apologize, Carson City. You have some decisions to make. There is quite a bit going on whether you want something family friendly, adults only, indoors, outdoors, or a combination of it all. The weekly Farmers Market at Third and Curry St. is always a good way to start the weekend. Yummy food, a bounce house for the kids, and beautiful flowers are hard to argue with. The weekend has arrived and it’s bringing a plethora of activity with it. Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Bikes, and cars, and brews: oh my! Downtown Carson is awash in activity on Saturday. Battleborn Brews, Bikes, and Bubbly features the Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge, vendors, a brewfest, moustache competition and more. The Karson Kruzers are hosting their annual car show at Fuji Park, but will be making their way downtown after it’s over, so there will be plenty of cool cars to admire. Mojo Green takes the stage at 7 p.m. and you can head into the Carson Cigar Company to enjoy Reno’s newest Pink Floyd Tribute Band, Scarlett Moon at 9 p.m.

SATURDAY:

The solstice couldn’t come at a better time: we need some long days to get through all the fun stuff Carson City has crammed into one weekend. The annual Powwow at the Stewart Indian School runs Friday through Sunday, so you’ll have plenty of time to see the dancing, peruse the crafts, and eat an Indian Taco. Don’t miss the Fly-in and Open House at the Carson City Airport: fun for the whole family. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one of Carson City’s favorite events: the Taste of Downtown. Music, food, and more from Carson Mall to Williams Street. Have a great time, and be safe.

I don’t mean to make this hard on you, but you have some decisions to make. All day, all night, all weekend long, there are numerous activities throughout our area. This Tuesday is a day for celebrating. You can choose to celebrate Library Week with a look at an amazing collection of old west memorabilia. Cake awaits at the fourteenth anniversary program of Mile High Jazz at Comma Coffee, in addition to some great musicians and vocalists. Or help Youth Theater Carson City celebrate the end of their third season of performances with a fun-filled night of entertainment, raffles, awards and more at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Community Center.

First things first. I want to send a big shout out and good luck to all of our Carson kids that are competing at the Flips Invitational Gymnastics meet in Reno this weekend. For those of you who aren't the proud parents of tumblers, Carson City has plenty to keep you busy.

Open to all kids grades K-12, auditions for Youth Theater Carson City's performance of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 10am in the Carson City Community Center. Auditioners should prepare a one minute song and be prepared to learn a dance. Tuition is $100; Scholarships available upon application.

Welcome to the weekend. Once again Carson Now brings you a list of what’s going on, and I suspect you’ve seen the daily lists Monday-Friday. This little valley is anything but sleepy. This weekend you can find Uncle Funkel playing at the Carson Cigar Company or Celtic traditional/rock fusion band, the Clarke Brothers at the Brewery Arts Center. Annie, Jr. will be at the Bob Boldrick Theater for this weekend only, so make sure to catch the amazing kids from Youth Theater Carson City.

If you were waiting for the sun to come out tomorrow, your wait is over. It is Friday and Annie, Jr. hits the stage tonight. Grab dinner at the Firkin and Fox and help celebrate their anniversary, or get your boogie on at 70s night at the Arlington Skating Rink. Leapin' Lizards, it's Youth Theater Carson City! The popular comic strip heroine Little Orphan Annie takes center stage in ANNIE JR., an adaptation of one of the world's best-loved and most-performed musicals, Jan. 9, 10, and 11 at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday and Sunday.

Time to get your last minute shopping finished and get those yummy smelling goodies in the oven. Celebrating 25 years, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights held at the steps of the Nevada State Capitol Building has become a Carson City Christmas card to the world.

Hello, Carson City! The holiday season is in full swing with tree lightings, craft fairs, Santa sightings all around the area. Every week, I create a list of the fun stuff and events going on around the Carson City area for my Facebook page, I love Carson City. I follow the pages of local businesses and organizations, search website calendars, keep my ear to the ground, and compile a list of anything and everything going on in this community.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights will officially kick off Friday evening, Dec. 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the steps of the State Capitol in Carson City.

Now in its 25th year, the annual event is sponsored by the Carson City Redevelopment Authority as part of their efforts to showcase the downtown core and to bring families together to enjoy the advent of the holiday season.

Seventy-five budding artists from kindergarten through grade 12 entered their art work into an annual contest recently as part of Carson City's annual Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights.

Each year, the teen board of the Carson City Library chooses a theme to coincide with the Christmas holidays. This year’s theme was “A Novel Christmas,” asking children to draw what Christmas would look like in their favorite novels.

The Sierra Nevada Ballet will present the popular “Peanutcracker – The Story in a Nut Shell” on Dec. 6 in the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” Peanutcracker is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet who wrote and choreographed this traditional holiday show.

It's the best of the season in one spectacular experience. Join Youth Theater Carson City for their extravaganza of holiday song and dance, featuring traditional holiday music as well as selections from Disney’s Frozen, The Nutcracker, White Christmas, Glee, and much more. It’s a new holiday tradition for the whole family.
