The Brewery Arts Center normally provides the Levitt-Amp concert series throughout the summer, but due to COVID-19 the festivities were cancelled this year. The BAC, however, along with several Carson City community partners, stepped up to bring safe family fun to the capital city, including the Flatbed Concert Series and drive-in movie nights.

Since 1988, the Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights has heralded in Carson City’s holiday season. The festival has grown from a simple tree lighting on the capitol grounds to involving the entire downtown core attracting thousands to enjoy this very special event.

The biggest holiday celebration in Carson City, the Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights, is scheduled to bring holiday cheer to the masses on Friday, Dec. 6.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival has been the official beginning of the holiday season for years, with the lighting of the great Christmas tree on Capitol grounds. Keep an eye out for Santa Claus, the Grinch, Max the dog, and Carson City's 5th graders who will be singing their hearts out while the tree is lit!

A hit on Broadway, A Year with Frog and Toad was nominated for three Tony Awards – including Best Musical. Based on Arnold Lobel's well-loved books, and featuring a hummable score by Robert and Willie Reale, this whimsical show follows two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons and tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout.

If you live in or around the capital region on Nevada Day, you know all too well how chaotic Carson City can become, with tens of thousands of people flooding in to celebrate the anniversary of Nevada Statehood. This year however, this well-loved Nevada tradition made its debut around the world, courtesy of the National Grassroots Broadcasting Network.

Each year, the Nevada Day parade makes its way through downtown Carson City in the biggest event of the year. The annual celebration of Nevada's induction into Statehood is a time-honored and popular tradition, with upwards of 20,000 people flocking to the Capital region. This year, however, you don't have to be in the Capital city to be a part of the celebration.

This week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Youth Theater Carson City's Andie Wilkerson and Aydree Shehorn to talk about the upcoming production of "Little Mermaid Jr.," which runs July 26 through August 4 at the Bob Boldrick Theatre inside the Carson City Community Center.

In what is sure to be the cutest production of the season, The Little Mermaid Jr. is hosting auditions today at Western Nevada Performing Arts Center as a part of Youth Theater Carson City.

This is an open call to all youth grades K-12. The dates for the show will be July 26 - Aug. 4, at the Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center.

We are running out of summer weekends. I know that’s hard to believe right now, but hoodies and everything pumpkin is just beyond the horizon. Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars. Car lovers have two shows to choose from today: spectators will be able to enjoy both, but you’ll have to pick one if you want to enter your ride. Keep reading for more summertime fun.

Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

Ready for a good time? The Carson City Fair runs all day and culminates with a special concert in the arena starring Journey Unlimited. Car lovers are in for a treat: you can head down to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night, or roll into the Max Casino to get registered for the 33rd annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.

This first weekend of June packs quite a punch: activities and events abound. Head downtown for the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the season, then wander a few blocks north for Due Sorella’s Spring Vintage Market. You may as well just keep the car parked. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. There are so many options this weekend, so take a gander and enjoy your weekend.

SATURDAY:  

The first day of the week marks the end of a season for Youth Theater Carson City. The year featured shows like Singing in the Rain, Jr. and Willy Wonka, Jr, and last summer’s Into the Dark, not to mention performances at Disneyland by their elite troupe: the Showstoppers. Help them celebrate another great year tonight’s Anniversary Bash and Awards Ceremony with show-stopping entertainment and cake. Something’s cooking in Dayton. The monthly Healthy Community’s Coalition’s free cooking class will teach you how to make something new, and then let you try all the dishes, as well.

Okay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

SATURDAY: St. Patrick’s Day

Winter may be showing up fashionably late, but she was certain to make an entrance. Schools in Carson City are closed due to the snowfall we received last night, but Carson Valley and Lyon County schools will be open. For the kids of Youth Theater Carson City: the show must go on.

Don’t think that you have to wait until the weekend to find something to do. Our shiny, ‘new’ library is showing ‘Hidden Figures,’ a movie about NASA during the Space Race, and the black female mathematicians behind the scenes. The Historical Society of Dayton Valley is thrilled to bring an update about their efforts to restore the 1881 Carson and Colorado Railroad Depot. Wired Wednesday is a group of film-makers, photographers, and digital artists that is responsible for the great short film contests throughout the year. They always welcome anyone interested to join their ranks.

Sunny days in the fifties are okay for spring, but we still need some winter to come our way. Take advantage of the warmer weather during a Winter Hike along Carson Valley’s Pinion Trail with Muscle Powered. Song and dance kids will want to audition for the upcoming performance of ‘Willy Wonka, Jr.’ If you’re a fan of song, but possibly too old to join the Youth Theater Carson City cast, check out the monthly jam in Silver City at their historic School House. All instruments are welcome, in addition to vocalists and those who just want to listen.

It’s play-off Sunday and we are all picking the teams that we want to cheer for in the big game. You can watch the Jaguars battle the Patriots, then the Eagles attack the Vikings. You have one last chance to commune with the monks of India. There is a workshop at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Coincidentally the classic sci-fi movie, Alien, is playing at Galaxy Theater the same times. Get a glimpse inside the historic Wungnema house at the east end of Mills Park during the afternoon’s Open House.

Ready, set, crawl. The Brew Crew’s monthly pub crawl kicks off from the Laxalt Plaza next to the Nugget and includes up several downtown area taverns and restaurants. If your new year’s resolution includes volunteering, the Muscle Powered Trash Mob is a quick, but mighty, helping hand. Learn about the future of the Stewart Indian School Historic Site during an encore lecture at the Nevada State Museum. Flashback to Beatle-mania at the Brewery Arts Center or karaoke at Battleborn Social are just some of your nightlife options.

You’ll be ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ all weekend; Youth Theater Carson City’s final weekend of performances is sure to bring down the house. The Monks of the Gaden Shartse Monastery will teach a Tibetan Calligraphy and Butter Sculpture Workshop and hold a Vajravidarin Healing Ritual in the Brewery Arts Center today. Carson’s nightlife features live music, karaoke, Carson Comedy, and west coast swing. Read on for all the details.

FRIDAY, Jan. 19: Things to do in Carson City

Playing in the snow probably isn’t an option for this weekend, but Singing in the Rain sure is. The kids of Youth Theater Carson City present a junior adaptation of the musical favorite this weekend and next. The Experimental Aircraft Association hosts ‘Young Eagle’ flights every few months at the Carson Airport to give kids 8 – 17 a plane ride to remember. Help out the Dayton Food Bank during their ‘Stuff-a-Cop-Car’ food drive at the Smith’s in Dayton; unexpired non-perishables of all kinds are appreciated. Earlier this week, we were all 'Singing in the Rain,' but tonight the talented kids of Youth Theater Carson City open up the entertaining musical on the Carson City Community Center's stage. New eatery, Bella Vita Bistro in the Carson Mall, brings local singer, Dougie L in to entertain the dinner crowd. FRIDAY, Jan. 12: Things to do in Carson City

December has arrived, and all things holidays are on the way. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Tree Lighting Celebration tonight will shut down traffic on Carson City for a little while. Sleigh rides, caroling, the Empty Bowls Soup Fest, and a performance by the Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers are just some of the planned festivities. Stay downtown for comedy at the Carson Nugget, Improv at the Brewery Arts Center, or a live DJ at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar and at Battle Born Social. Keep reading, though, that’s just the tip of the Friday happenings iceberg.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights annual tree lighting celebration outside the Nevada State Capitol Building in Carson City is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 1. Activities are planned throughout downtown from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and listed below.

Here is an updated parade list for all the entries in the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday. Note, there was a last-minute change in streets where the entries are supposed to line up that is different than the printed program. The change was made to accommodate some larger floats. With a hearty supply of costumed ones, Carson City went all out Wednesday at its first ever Boo-Nanza celebration, co-hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation, the Carson City Library and the Carson City Aquatics Facility.

Make this weekend something special. School starts up on Monday and it will be Halloween before we blink an eye. The Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival at Battle Born Harley boasts a full day of live music, vendors, activities and family fun. Bowers Mansion plays host to the annual Bluegrass Festival – bring a picnic and enjoy. Downtown Carson City will see the first of three monthly Beer Crawls; if you get there early, head over to Remedy’s to witness their yearly Bloody Mary Competition. There is something for everyone this weekend, so keep reading and find your fun.

The Jazz and Beyond Music Festival has buddied up with something new this year. Today and tomorrow, the Jukebox International Film Festival features fifteen contestants competing in four categories. Youth Theater Carson City and Western Nevada Musical Theater alum, Grant Davis, is back in town to show support for ‘Something Like Summer,’ the Australian musical he stars in. Make sure you’re in McFadden Plaza around 5 p.m. Davis will be performing songs from the movie and music from his debut album on the Third Street Stage.

Once upon a time the talented kids of Youth Theater Carson City took to the Community Center stage. You have one last chance to catch their fairytale, ‘Into the Woods, Jr.’ before it heads off to Neverland. The Brewery Arts Center plays host to a plethora of Jazz and Beyond today. Don't miss the final day of hot rods and chrome at the Silver Dollar Car Classic in Mills Park. Exercise your artistic talent and play with some mud at Ogres-Holm Pottery where they will be creating bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls event.

Carson City native Grant Davis, 20, stars in the musical film, "Something Like Summer," the award-winning new movie that has won raves on the 2017 film festival circuit, including prominent engagements in Sydney, Australia; Rio De Janeiro, Brazil; Los Angeles, San Diego, Philadelphia and Miami.
