Sunday should be a great day to be out and about, so come to the Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation’s open house at the Wungnema House, Sunday afternoon from 2-5 p.m. There is no admission fee, and all are welcome.

Sunday offers a brief reprieve from the chill of winter with a forecast high of around 50 degrees before the next bout of cold air hits the region on New Year's Eve.

Just like that, the end of a long holiday weekend is nigh. But the spirit of the season is just getting started. You can find it all around Carson City on Sunday.

The Wungnema House is located on the east side of Mills Park across from Carson High School. It was built by a family of skilled Hopi stonemasons shortly after World War II and served as the family’s home until the early 1970s.

Just because Nevada Day and the parade are over doesn't mean there isn't anything to do around Carson City on Sunday. Take advantage of the last of a three-day weekend, relax or have some more fun.

Nevada's celebration of statehood provides for a bevy of activities that showcase the Silver State's best. From contests to exhibits, food and beverages of all kinds, Native dancing, hot air balloons, concerts, a carnival celebration at Mills Park and the famed Nevada Day parade, there is something for everyone throughout the long weekend.

What a day. The Concert Under the Stars brings Jefferson Starship to the outdoor stage at the Brewery Arts Show. Get there early to peruse the silent auction items and food vendors; the annual fundraising benefit for the Greenhouse Project is always the talk of the town. The Greatest Showman on Earth makes an appearance at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch: it’s Chautauqua night, and Doug Mishler will be portraying “Circus Showman P. T. Barnum.” The Stewart Indian School in east Carson City has history reaching into the early days of our state.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation will present Community Service Awards for year 2018 recipients in a brief ceremony on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. at the monument at the entrance to the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park.

The weekend has arrived, and it will be an exceptionally long one for the schoolkids of Carson City: spring break begins Monday. There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Break a leg to the Douglas students performing in ‘Game of Tiaras’ this weekend; the show sounds hilarious, but be warned, it’s not for kids. Let the Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble entertain you with the in the warmth and magic of the holiday season during their free Winter Wandering concerts. ‘Elf’ is a modern holiday classic, and you’ll find it on the big screen today and Wednesday at the Galaxy Theater.
