CARSON CITY — Week 5 of the Nevada Legislature marks the quarter way point in the 2019 session. Up this week, a prohibition on implanting a microchip in another person and a license plate to support environmental conservation at Lake Tahoe. A bill would mandate an interim study of wildfires. A joint resolution to urge Congress to oppose the expansion of the United States Air Force into the Desert National Wildlife Refuge will be heard. Lake Tahoe man sentenced to prison for destruction of ancient archaeological sites

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A South Lake Tahoe man was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez to one year and one day in prison and ordered to pay $113,000 in restitution for two counts of excavation and removal of archaeological resources from public lands and one misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced.

CARSON CITY — Reno artist Kate O’Hara need only to open her door and look to the mountains to find inspiration for her creations.

O’Hara’s exhibit, “Botanica Obscura,” can be seen for the next three weeks at the Nevada Arts Council’s Legislative eXhibition Series (LXS) inside the Nevada Legislative Building in Carson City. Throughout the 2019 Legislative session, the works of six Nevada artists is being featured. O’Hara is the second of the six artists and her display will remain in place through March 15.

NDOW to host 10th Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament Feb. 8

Imagine a line of nearly 200 youthful archers all releasing their arrows toward down-range targets at the same time. In 12 minutes, those archers will shoot a total of 6,000 arrows in one of three flights that will comprise the 2019 annual Nevada National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Tournament.
