At the Chamber's Annual Meeting held at Duke’s Steakhouse inside the Casino Fandango on Monday, June 21, outgoing Chairman of the Board Jim Smolenski honored special people who helped the Chamber grow during his tenure.

The 17th Taste of Downtown brought Carson City citizens together again, celebrating what makes the community rich in spirit despite the hard economic times. The annual event brought people of all ages and backgrounds together to celebrate and give to a temendously worthwhile and much-supported organization, Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Carson City Health and Human Services is recruiting additional volunteers for the Carson City Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) with a informational reception on Tuesday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Artisan Cafe inside the Brewery Arts Center. Medical as well as non-medical volunteers are needed. In case of a local emergency such as flood, fire or disease outbreak, response teams are necessary to assist local fire, sheriff, and medical personnel. By becoming a member of the MRC, volunteers are vetted and trained in advance to assist when help is needed.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Historic Resources Commission, specifically filling the position of Architect, Residential Designer or Design Professional.

The Historic Resources Commission reviews and makes decisions regarding projects in the Carson City Historic District and/or recommendations to the Regional Planning Commission and/or Board of Supervisors regarding matters relating to Carson City historic resources.

Residents of Carson City interested in serving between 12 to 16 hours a month on the Carson City Planning Commission are encouraged to apply for three open positions.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from residents interested in serving on the Commission, which oversees all Carson City planning and zoning matters, land use and growth management. Meetings are the last Wednesday of every month at 5 p.m., at the Community Center in the Sierra Room.

It's spring in Carson City and what better way to ring this time of renewal than with the RSVP Spring Fun Fair and Carnival at Mills Park, May 6-9.
This year marks the 25th annual fair, a rich Carson City tradition, which offers carnival rides, food, arts, crafts and novelties. And for Mom's out there, they can ride carnival rides free all day on Mother's Day, May 9.
