There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.
One dead, one arrested in fatal morning crash that shut down Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 06/13/2019 - 7:42amUPDATE 12:32PM Both lanes of Highway 50 are now open for travel following Thursday morning's fatal crash involving two pickups. One person is in custody. Impairment is suspected, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 10:54 AM: preliminary crash investigation shows the suspect vehicle crossed over the center lane line, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE 9:21AM: One person has been arrested and impairment is suspected in a fatal crash that happened Thursday morning near Round Hill at Lake Tahoe, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. One person died in the crash that happened at around 7 a.m. The crash involved two pickups, with one of the vehicles hauling a trailer. There is around 150 feet of debris scattered across the entirety of the highway. Highway 50 remains closed.

The Nevada Highway Patrol closed Highway 50 West Thursday morning due to a fatal vehicle crash near Round Hill in Douglas County at Lake Tahoe. Lanes are closed in both directions between Zephyr Cove and Elk Point. NHP says expect delays and avoid the area.

Fire damages mobile home Friday night in East Carson City

When firefighters arrived, they were faced with a double wide residential trailer that was fully engulfed with flames. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
Power outages in Carson City, high winds close Washoe Valley to all vehicles over 9 feet

Meanwhile, wind gusts flipped two vehicles on I-580 north of Carson City in Washoe Valley late Monday morning causing some traffic delays.

Fill A Trailer Toy Drive Saturday, Dec. 8 in Carson City
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Fri, 12/07/2018 - 3:19pmThe first annual Fill A Trailer Kids Toy Drive is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Martin Auto Color, 2765 U.S. Highway 50 East in Carson City.
Goal of the event is to gather as many toys and children's clothing items for all ages as possible; enough to fill a 14-foot utility trailer to the top.
Unwrapped gifts would be much appreciated. Canned goods are also welcomed.
This event, hosted by J.T. and Friends, is in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys For Tots and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

UNR scientists find causes of 'firenado' in deadly northern California Carr Fire
Submitted by editor on Wed, 12/05/2018 - 2:40pmRENO — A destructive fire-generated vortex — a massive stream of rising, spinning, smoke, ash and fire — that topped out at 17,000 feet above the earth, accelerated the Carr fire that killed eight people and devastated a widespread area in the Redding, Calif., region in July 2018.
The vortex, a little-observed atmospheric phenomena, was spinning with the power of a class three tornado, which earned it the name of Firenado.

Lake Tahoe agency recognizes decade of fighting invasive species with boat inspections
