For over a decade, Carson City hotels and motels were able to claim a two percent discount for paying their taxes early each month. However, after an opinion issued by the District Attorney’s Office stating that the discount was never approved by the Board of Supervisors, the discount will no longer be applicable.

Phase II of the Bella Vista Ranch development (between South Meadows Parkway and Rio Wrangler Parkway is approved.

The 77-acre housing development will fence off several hundred horses from their only water source as soon as construction begins.

The development plan (p. 75) originally called for maintaining the horses access to water, but that provision has since been removed and there is no alternative plans for ensuring the horses' access to water!

The rodeo returns to Virginia City Aug. 24-25 bringing with it a full force of western and cultural heritage starting off with a longhorn cattle drive right down the center of town. Northern Nevada Development Authority on Friday announced its economic development service area has been expanded to include Mineral County. The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development \has designated NNDA as the regional development authority (RDA) for the county, effective July 1, 2019. Mineral County joins Nevada’s Sierra Region that also includes Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County and Storey County.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced Friday the awarding of more than $1 million in statewide grants to 172 recipients ranging from individual artists to nonprofit organizations and public institutions for the 2020 fiscal year.

The Epic Rides Off-Road Series is a nationally recognized mountain bike festival featuring endurance racing, music, biking exhibitions and more. The City entered into a five-year agreement with Epic Rides and the Carson City Culture and Tourism Authority regarding the Carson City Off-Road event to be held the third weekend of each June.

Carson City is getting better at preserving its history after losing some of its most iconic structures to neglect and disuse. Think the V&T Roundhouse and Children’s Home, though there were many more historic structures that met the wrecking ball ultimately changing how Carson Street looks today.

A new law was signed by Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak that establishes a $5 tourism fee on the per-night rate for rental lodgings in the Lake Tahoe, Stateline area of Douglas County. The new law takes effect July 1 and had bipartisan support at the conclusion of the Nevada State Legislature.

Hello Carson City as we head into Thursday, June 6, 2019. Activities, art and entertainment abound as we get closer to the weekend. CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Tourism, also known as TravelNevada, has promoted Christian Passink to director of Sales and Industry Partners. In this position, Passink will oversee all efforts to promote the Silver State to international visitors as well as supervise TravelNevada’s rural outreach and grant programs.

CARSON CITY — For the second consecutive year, the Nevada State Museum will celebrate Hawaiian culture with “Lei Day.”

CARSON CITY – Nevada soon could become the 13th state to establish a state Division of Outdoor Recreation, the subject of a public hearing Thursday in the state Assembly’s Government Affairs Committee. The office would promote tourism, but also advocate for protection of Nevada’s public lands.

An Earth Day Celebration of Pollinators is set for April 28, 2019 at the historic Foreman-Roberts House Museum in Carson City. This will be a welcoming event for children and families seeking to learn more about the Earth and value of conserving resources.

The third year of TedxCarson City brought discussions to the community, by the community, ranging in topics from exploring new sounds in classical music traditions, to computer hacking, to ending the cycle of poverty, and many more.

Carson City Chamber hosted a Ground Breaking event today in a prime area on North Carson St. for a new extended stay hotel of the “My Place Hotels” national chain.

Construction is now underway on the city’s newest hotel, which is a family owned business and real American success story.

My Place is excited to invest and participate in Carson City’s community, a spokesperson of the hotels said.
