I don’t want to jinx anything, but there are rumors of wet stuff on the way. Granted, the valley will probably just see some rain, but I love seeing our mountains snow-capped. The Epic Rides’ Carson City Off-Road race isn’t until June, but locals can sign up tonight at a nice discount. Teens can find a little peace and quiet with the new Meditation Group that meets at A to Zen. Learning to calm your mind can be an invaluable tool during the school year.

A great beginning to a new year starts with safety first, and the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Carson City School District and Partnership Carson City, is promoting its Safe and Sober New Year’s for all Carson City youth by offering support to any middle school or high school student having a get-together on New Year’s Eve.

Get your fill of twinkling holiday lights while you can, the displays at Carson Valley Inn and at Nevada Christmas only run through Friday night.

On a morning like this, I realize that I need to ask Santa for some windshield wipers. Stay safe out there, Carson City, the roads are wet. The Carson Library is usually a great place to retreat on days like this, but you’ll find their doors closed for the next few weeks: time for a makeover. If you’d like to check out a book or use the wireless internet, you’ll find a ‘pop-up’ library in the Community Center this week, and in the Adams Hub on Proctor Street next week.

Carson City weather update: High wind warning, up to 4 inches of snow on valley floors

A High Wind Warning is underway for the region as Carson City braces for a fairly quick moving winter storm that is expected to bring 50 to 60 mph wind gusts followed by accumulating snow along the valley floors and 8 to 10 inches above 7,000 feet.

Carson City area weather: Gusty winds, snow and cold beginning late Tuesday

A strong cold front will move through the Carson City region and Sierra from Tuesday night into Wednesday bringing the potential for damaging winds, widespread snow down to all valley floors and very cold temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

We are days away from a winter wonderland: halls will be decked, and everything will be merry and bright. On Thursday, Gardnerville will flip the switch on its holiday lights, with help from Santa. Friday, the capital city hosts the Silver and Snowflakes Tree Lighting Celebration, as well as the very yummy Empty Bowls Soup Fest. Saturday, in addition to Carson City’s monthly downtown wine walk and the annual Holiday with a Hero Crawl, Minden holds its annual Christmas Parade.

'Day-by-day': Three teens remain in critical condition after Carson City crash

Last week, a basketball game among rivals Douglas High and Carson High inspired more comradery than animosity as it raised money for the teens injured in the Nov. 9 rollover. Tonight, an alumni hoops battle takes place to raise more money; go cheer them on, we are all winners in this game. The weather should be wonderful for this afternoon’s downtown walk with Muscle Powered. The Friends of the Carson City Library bring author J.L. Pattison to Browsers Corner for their November meet and greet.

Nevada's Division of Child and Family Services recognizes 2017 National Adoption Month

November is National Adoption Month. In Nevada, there are more than 4,600 children and teens in foster care. Many of these children have spent several years in foster care and are seeking more permanent connections through adoption by a family or adult mentor.

Five out of seven teens hurt in a rollover crash on Kings Canyon Road remain in critical condition as classes resume at Carson and Dayton high schools Monday. Six of the teens – all 16 or 17 – were students at Carson High School; one student was a student at Dayton High School.

Pick-up Soccer Tournament Saturday morning to benefit injured CHS students

A boys and girls pick-up soccer tourney will be held Saturday morning, with donations to going to the seven for the seven teens injured in Thursday's single vehicle rollover crash on Kings Canyon Road.

Organized by Junior Ramirez, a member of Carson Futbol Club, the soccer tournament will be held at Talents Athletic Center: 2749B North Carson Street on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Teams must be 6 person. The fundraising fee is $50 per team. Teams can be co-ed.

UPDATE 12:09 PM: A Carson High School student and friend of the seven Carson City teens injured in a rollover accident has created a GoFundMe account to help with medical expenses. The conditions of the seven injured have not been released. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

UPDATE 1:10AM: Seven teenagers were injured, some critically, in a single vehicle rollover crash that happened late Thursday night on Kings Canyon Road, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The injuries involved high school-aged students.

The accident was reported at 10:46 p.m. and involved an SUV, said Furlong. It happened around a quarter mile west of the intersection of Kings Canyon and Longview. Injuries range from moderate to severe, said Furlong.

Kings Canyon Road was reopened later this morning.

Those injured were taken by either air ambulance or ground ambulance to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center in Reno and Carson Tahoe Hospital, said Furlong.

There is no school on Friday in recognition of Veterans Day.

Carson City area weather: Freezing overnight temperatures, gusty winds this week

While this weekend's expected storm didn't produce precipitation here in Carson City but carried with it some snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra, the National Weather Service says expect daytime breezy conditions and night time cold temperatures for the first part of the week.
