Dayton Valley and Lake Tahoe students compete in Scripps National Spelling Bee

Morgan Salvador, a 12-year-old 7th grader who attends George Whittell High School in Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe was Speller No. 284, while Morgan Bumgardner, Speller 275, is a 13-year-old Dayton Intermediate School student. He is listed as being from Mound House. Both students were, unfortunately, eliminated as they worked their way into the finals.

Diabetes Prevention Program
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 05/28/2019 - 9:22amAt Carson Tahoe Health, we recognize that resources can be hard to come by. That’s why, in conjunction with the CDC and the National Diabetes Prevention Program, starting June 5, 2019, a session of “Small Steps. Big Rewards” will begin.
A year-long program that has proven to be effective in eliminating the risk of diabetes. The classes will be held at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, 1470 Medical Pkwy, Suite 250.

Wungnema House at Mills Park in Carson City open to the public on Sunday
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sat, 05/25/2019 - 6:51pmStop by the east side of Mills Park on Sunday for the Parks Foundation’s monthly open house at the Wungnema House, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
The Wungnema House is the charming stone cottage located on the east side of Mills Park across from Carson High. It was built by a family of skilled Hopi stonemasons shortly after WWII and served as the family’s home until the early 1970s. There is no admission fee, and all are welcome.

Tahoe planning agency approves Emerald Bay settlement agreement
