WNC hosts Transfer Day for students planning to build on associate degree

College and university advisers and representatives from around Nevada met with students Thursday as part of Transfer Day at Western Nevada College in Carson City. The advisors and reps met with students who are planning to transfer to a four-year college or university as they continue to build on their WNC associate degree.

Carson City Symphony Opens 36th Season Sunday, Oct. 20

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 36th season on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at 4 p.m., with an “Overture of the Season” concert at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater.

Senator Square: Club opportunities everywhere at Carson High School

CHS has many opportunities for students to become a part of something bigger than just themselves, not that making a name for oneself is a bad idea or anything, but it is up to the student to step on up, come on in, and check them out. There are so many clubs on campus; there are Interact Club meetings at lunch in CHS teacher Erin Been’s room every Thursday, and Been also advises the Represent Club.

Pioneer High School JAG students honored with ceremony at Governor's Mansion

On Thursday evening, Pioneer High School JAG (Jobs for America’s Graduates) students participated in their annual Initiation and Installment Ceremony at the Governor’s Mansion.

The JAG program at Pioneer High School has made positive changes since its implementation just a few years ago. The JAG program teaches life skills to students and allows them to learn skills such as public speaking, taxes, how to apply for scholarships, car loans, and of course, resumes and cover letters, among many other topics.

Capital City Arts Initiative to present public talk, 'Why Did You Choose Justin Favela?'

On Wednesday, October 16, the Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) will present a public talk, “Why Did You Choose Justin Favela?” by Nevada Museum of Art’s curator, JoAnne Northrup. The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series and will take place at 5:30pm at the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Northrup preceding the event at 5pm. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

V&T train rides, pumpkin patch, Scandinavian festival, hikes, fundraisers and more: Carson City region set for eventful weekend

Carson City arrests: Man held for allegedly threatening student, throwing rocks at school

A 43-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in the area of Fall and William Street for allegedly trying to fight a Pioneer High School student and throwing rocks at the school.

Carson City area students participate in International Walk to School Day

International Walk to School Day is being celebrated Wednesday around Carson City. The day is celebrated globally and involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, it has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration each October.

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Rhonda Abend from Carson City Classic Cinema Club to talk about classic films, tonight's showing of "Charade" and her weekly radio show about films.

Be it classic films or current local films, the club, also known as C5, is committed to bringing Carson City movie entertainment. Its regular schedule of classic films is shown on the first Tuesday of every month at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street.

Drone study aims to improve Carson City school zone bicycle, pedestrian safety

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 1, parents, families and teachers may see drones flying above and around their schools during morning student drop-off or afternoon pick-up. The Carson City School District is working with Carson City government officials to conduct a safety review study designed to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety in school zones.

Senator Square: Carson High School graduate addresses National Honor Society members

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.
