Carson City Health and Human Services and Douglas County Mosquito Abatement are reporting Thursday the first human case of West Nile virus in the Carson City, Douglas County area for 2018. The individual confirmed to have West Nile Virus was diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness.

A 71-year-old Mound House man was arrested late Monday for misdemeanor obstructing a police officer, driving with expired registration and basic speeding, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

The individual confirmed to have West Nile virus was diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness. The exposure to WNV through mosquito bites occurred out of state.

My friend Jose asked me if he sprayed cheatgrass would it sterilize the seeds. He hoped if he applied an herbicide before weed-eating, it would kill the seeds, which were going to be spread all over as he cut.

The answer, unfortunately, is “no.”

Winterfest 2018 is here, and the theme is “Into the Depps of Winterfest"— as in Johnny Depp — with a week stuffed full of fun activities. Depp says, “I think the thing to do is to enjoy the ride while you’re on it” and this is what Carson High School students intend to do all week long.

A 61-year-old Dayton man was arrested Saturday at 7:07 p.m. near the intersection of College Pkwy and Nye Ln. for misdemeanor DUI first offense, unlawful method of turn, and drive on right required. Total bail: $1,341.

According to the arrest report a CCSO deputy on patrol observed a vehicle make a very wide turn, left of center before correcting to the right side of the roadway. The vehicles license plate light was not functioning and the driver did not signal the turn.

The Carson City Senior Center collected more than 550 gifts from area residents and businesses for homebound seniors this year. The Carson City Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program delivers almost 300 meals to homebound seniors daily. In the past year, the Center has provided over 79,500 hot meals.

We’ve got one heck of a weekend on its way, and it’s starting right now. Start off with a trip to the Governor’s Mansion with something non-perishable for the annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive: you won’t even have to leave the warmth of your vehicle. Break a leg to Wild Horse Children’s Theater and to the Proscenium Players. Both troupes begin the run of their winter plays tonight at the Brewery Arts Center. It’s a Christmas Shopping Extravaganza at Fuji Park. You’ll find a plethora of vendors, crafters, and artisans waiting to help make your holiday shopping hassle-free.

I live with a bear and I don’t mean my husband. We have lived in west Washoe Valley for 29 years and have only had one or two bears pass through in all those years.

Friends to All is dedicated to bringing joy, cheer and friendship to senior citizens in the Carson City community during the holiday season. Since 1999 this group has been working to meet the needs of those with limited financial resources who are home bound or in care centers with little or no family nearby.

Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. On Veterans Day, we take time to honor those men and women that have served in our armed forces. The holiday is observed today, meaning schools and public offices will be closed. UPDATE WEDNESDAY: Lyon County has had three (3) confirmed cases of WNV. Two (2) of them were confirmed via pre-screening of donated blood. One (1) case was confirmed to have the less severe form of the illness.
The three (3) cases were located in Fernley and Yerington.
