Heading into the middle of the month, we're all deserving of a high five. You can give an entire family a big cheer Thursday by donating a turkey at the annual Carson City High Five Turkey Drive hosted by FISH at Carson City Nissan. Stop by, bring a turkey and give a local family in need a happy Thanksgiving. Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those who did not know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people. She carried water and snacks in her car to give to the homeless and people less fortunate than her.

The 2019 season for CHS girls golf was a great experience for everyone on the team. This year, the team was comprised of five girls: Karen Beglin, Sophia Taggart, Karrina Ferris, Brooke Gudmundson, myself, and our coaches, Wade Greenlee and Jack Butler.

Carson Catalina Apartments in Carson City announced Tuesday that its 5th Annual Haunted House will be free and open to the public this year. The Haunted House has become a complex event that incorporates animatronics, live actors, mazes, and much more. The staff begin building the haunted house about 2 months before opening day, Halloween.

Carson High School cheerleaders cheered as they entered Walmart in Carson City and then performed two more cheers on top of that. There is an old saying found in a very old book which says, “You have not because you ask not.”

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Nevada Raider Nation - Carson City Chapter will host a game watch of the Oakland Raiders vs Chicago Bears at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at Jimmy G's, 301 N. Carson St., in Carson City.

The game, televised live from London, will be shown on three TV screens. New members are welcome to watch with the veterans, and are welcome to join. Membership is $20 per person.

National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.
