Column: Remembering America's greatest tragedy

Today is April 12, a seemingly ordinary day just like any other.

But 155 years ago, April 12 was anything but ordinary.

It was the day America went to war against herself.

Early in the morning before dawn on April 12, 1861, Confederate artillery forces in Charleston, South Carolina, released cannon fire on Fort Sumter, a federal military installation in Charleston Harbor.

The ensuing artillery barrage lasted for hours before the fort's commander, Maj. Robert Anderson, surrendered the property to the state of South Carolina and the Confederate States of America.

What's A "Republican"?

The shameless behavior of the "Republicans" in the recently concluded 78th session of the Nevada Legislature -- their vote for the biggest tax and budget hike in the State's history being first and foremost among their record of mis- and nonfeasance -- and the angry reaction to it by the State Party and the loyal Republican rank-and-file, raise an important question.

What is a Republican? What does it mean to be a Republican? If the RINOs and conservatives are both "Republicans," then the term badly needs to be defined.

The Truth About Hate Speech and Hate Crimes

For the record; I do not hate Nazi's, I do not hate Fascists, I do not hate Imperialists, I do not hate Socialists, I do not hate Communists, nor do I hate Muslims. However, I do hate murder and slavery and it is not my fault that all these cults use, and are synonymous with, the two things that I will always hate the most.

Reno-Sparks NAACP asks Nevada State Assembly Republican Caucus to replace Ira Hansen as speaker

The Reno-Sparks NAACP this week asked the Nevada State Assembly Republican Caucus to reconsider its recent unanimous election of Assemblymember Ira Hansen, R-Sparks, as speaker of the lower house for the 2015 legislative session.

"We were very disappointed by the decision," stated Reno-Sparks Branch President Jeffrey Blanck.

"We understand that the caucus has many newly elected members who may not be as familiar with Mr. Hansen's past as we are. They need to know he has beaten the drum of intolerance for decades," Blanck said.

Cliven Bundy And His Followers Are Not Patriots!

Event Date:
December 27, 2013 (All day)

I am always amused by those individuals who attach themselves to the United States Constitution in such a way as to be literal in its interpretation, wrap themselves in the Flag of our Nation, and call themselves “true patriots” and the defenders of our “rights and liberties”.

Apparently, if I disagree with their definition of “true patriotism” then I am something less than a citizen or patriot incapable of defending our “rights and liberties”.

An Easter Sentiment

Over two thousand years ago, Roman tax collectors using torture, murder and slavery, humiliated, scourged and crucified a Jewish Rabbi that today is revered by a billion or more followers as teacher, Rabbi, Christ, Messiah, or Son of God. But no matter what we call the mystery of Jesus, each Easter we celebrate the resurrection of faith, hope and love as taught by the greatest Rabbi who ever lived. On Easter we celebrate the triumph of good over evil and of the light over the darkness in our troubled world.

Sen. Harry Reid speaks about Nevada's Sesquicentennial on the Senate floor

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid spoke on the Senate floor Wednesday regarding the year-long celebration of Nevada’s statehood. Below are his remarks as prepared for delivery as well as the video:

The Nature of Peace

The Greatest Christmas Gift

Today we celebrate the birth of a Jewish Rabbi. We celebrate the renewal of hope that the world may one day learn from the greatest teacher that ever lived. For his billion Christian followers, as Christian/Jews, we also celebrate the birth of the Christ, the messiah, the son of God. During this celebration, the world shall receive the greatest gift.

Veterans Day

My grandfather lived through the Great War - the War to end all wars. And I think of him on this eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month honoring the Armistice. I remember my grandfather on this day along with my father who fought in WWII in Africa and Italy. Today especially, I think of my nephew who has fallen on the battlefield in Afghanistan engaged in combat with the ancient cult of murder and slavery called Islam.

I am not disappointed; I am angry, I am tired.

I told you so, again and again for four years. OK, so Obama did not cancel the elections; he did one better, he put the veneer of the "will of the people" on it. Voting is the best revenge...? He never had to say, against whom.

FIRE 'em ALL!

Uncle Sam wants you to Fire 'em ALL!

Most Nevadan's are part of the 58% majority of registered voters in our state. The national socialist democrat party has only registered 42% of Nevada voters even using the illegal tactics of ACORN and similar illegal acts of registering non residents of our state. We still have the majority votes required to FIRE 'em ALL! We still have a majority of the vote. Now we need to Fire 'em All!
