Congratulations to Senator Reid
I congratulate and commend Harry Reid on his statement comparing the opposition against reforming health care to the opposition against abolishing slavery.
Everyone who works for an hourly wage at a corporation knows that today's labor conditions are still stuck in the 19th century, despite federal laws and regulations granting workers basic rights. The prospect of losing even the marginal benefits of employer paid health insurance prevents most workers from reporting the daily violations. This makes health insurance an extremely efficient tool to intimidate workers into loyalty and submission - particularly in "right to work" states like Nevada where employers don't need a reason for termination - which amounts to the continuation of slavery by other means; an equal opportunity slavery, not limited to a single ethnicity like the original one.
The opposition against health care reform is nothing but an attempt to keep this tool intact and available for the exploiters of the American people.
The historical significance of this statement made by the majority leader of the U.S. Senate ranks next to the declaration of independence. It has the potential to trigger the liberation of the working people in the land of the free.
