Carson City Sheriff: Fifth person tied to Monday homicide arrested Friday

A fifth person tied to the Monday murder of an 18-year-old Carson City man was taken into custody Friday, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Late Friday afternoon, the Carson City Justice Court issued an arrest warrant for Jonathan Skenandore, 18, on the charges of accessory to murder, a category C felony, accessory to robbery, a category C felony, and conspiracy to commit robbery, a category B felony. He is the latest to be arrested in connection with the early morning fatal shooting of Grant Watkins near a park in north Carson City.

UPDATE: A woman was found fatally shot early this morning on a street in Gardnerville. The suspect in the shooting is in custody after he was also shot and was taken to the hospital, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies responded to 1200 block of Manhattan Way for reported domestic violence call with shots fired. At approximately 1:24 am, Douglas County deputies responded to the residence on Manhattan Way.

Douglas County authorities: Battery victim in Gardnerville fight allegedly shot attacker

A man critically injured Tuesday night in Gardnerville after a shooting was allegedly shot by the victim of a battery that happened earlier in the evening, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

A 26-year-old man was arrested Saturday on felony drug and firearm charges after he allegedly fired several rounds from a handgun near hiking trails, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

A 33-year-old Gardnerville man, Jason Richard Thrift, has been identified as the victim of Monday's fatal shooting at a Gardnerville home, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

One dead, one in custody in Gardnerville shooting

UPDATE: A 29-year-old Gardnerville woman was booked on a charge of open murder in the death of a man Monday morning. Nichole Christine Followill is being held without bail at this time, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Information on the victim is being withheld until family is notified. As of Monday afternoon, Toler Lane remains closed from Mountain Court and Lampe Drive.

Carson City authorities respond to shots fired near South Carson Street apartment complex

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded late Thursday night to a report gunshots fired in the 3300 block of South Carson Street.

The incident was reported at around 11:50 p.m. near the Cherry Creek apartments. No injuries were reported. Officers detained several subject and arrested two, a 19-year-old-man and 20-year-old woman on unrelated charges.

Carson City authorities investigate shots fired at vehicle near Woodside Drive market; stray bullet hits funeral home

UPDATE: Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies are investigating shots fired at a vehicle at around 10:15 p.m. Saturday. The incident happened near the area of Eagle Valley Market, in the 900 block of Woodside Drive.

A bullet was reported to have hit nearby Fitzhenry's Funeral Home in the 3900 block of Fairview Drive, according to patrol officers investigating the scene.

A vehicle was said to have shattered glass following an incident involving two vehicles in which rocks were thrown and shots fired during a dispute between the occupants inside two vehicles, authorities said.

Carson City Sheriff: Man in custody after shooting his brother in chest

UPDATE 11PM: An investigation continued late Thursday night in the Carson City area shooting in which one man was hospitalized and his brother was taken into custody.
The FBI, Washoe Tribal Police and the Carson City Sheriff's Office remained at the scene of the shooting that happened at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday night in the 400 block of Oneida Street. The condition of the victim is unknown.
Detectives from the agencies wouldn't comment on the investigation. An FBI agent arrived at home at around 10 p.m. South Curry Street between Washoe and Oneida was opened shortly after 9 p.m.

UPDATE 9:05PM: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports the shooting tonight on Oneida Street happened between two adult brothers where one brother was shot in the chest. The alleged shooter is in custody tonight and his brother was being transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

"At this point he is still alive and the brother who shot him is in custody," said Furlong.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office was called as an agency assist to Washoe Tribal Police, Furlong added.
Traffic along Curry Street remained blocked at Washoe and Shoshone as of 9 p.m.

Sheriff's Office Investigating Shots Fired at home of Carson City Justice of the Peace

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is looking for a suspect in two shots fired that happened early Tuesday morning at the home of a Carson City Justice of the Peace John Tatro. No one was injured. The incident happened at around 4:30 a.m. Security measures have been beefed up at the Carson City Municipal Court.

BLM Carson City urges public awareness of extreme wildfire danger

Extremely dry conditions has prompted the Bureau of Land Management Carson City District to urge cities, counties and residents to be aware of the increased chance of wildfire due to extreme dry conditions and warmer temperatures.
“The current conditions for this time of the year are dryer than what we have seen in the last 20 years," said Ken Smihula, fire management officer. “The public needs to be aware of the dry conditions and the very high risk of wildfire. We encourage everyone using public lands to be careful in regards to human-caused fires and take appropriate steps to prevent them.”

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony allegations:

  • Ashley Ore-Larson, 18, a Carson City woman, for conspiracy to violation the controlled substances act and possession of heroin. Ore-Larson was also arrested for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail has been set at $18,500 plus administrative fees. Douglas County Sheriff's Office looking for suspected window shooter

At approximately 5:30 am on Sunday, March 25th, 2012, deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a call of suspicious circumstances - possible shots fired at the Nevada Ugly Bar, 1433 US Hwy 395, Gardnerville, Nevada.

Upon arrival at the location, deputies observed the front glass window of the business was fractured with numerous cracks.

More details emerge about dog shooting

In a tragic incident on Friday, an officer was attacked by a dog while making an arrest, leading to shots being fired and the death of the dog.

Initially we reported the story based on the dispatch log. The official arrest report has more details about the incident.

According to the arrest report, at about 2:30 p.m. Friday, an officer conducted a routine traffic stop on a car containing Kevin Dean Parrish, 26, and Asya Rose Pedone, 30, both Carson City residents. Also in the car were two large dogs identified as being similar in appearance to a pit bull, and two children.
