Douglas County authorities ask for help in identifying suspects

Two commercial burglaries early Monday morning in Douglas County have authorities asking the public for help in identifying the suspects with photos provided by surveillance cameras.
The first burglary occurred at the Verizon Wireless Outlet Store on Waterloo Ln sometime around 5 am, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey. Entry was made by the suspect smashing the glass of the exterior window of the store. Two cellular telephones, phone chargers and miscellaneous currency were stolen from inside. Douglas County authorities ask for help in locating couple wanted for questioning over unresolved murder

Authorities are asking the public for help in locating a couple wanted for questioning in the murder of Minnesota man whose remains were found in a shallow grave found earlier this year in a backcountry area of Douglas County.
The skeletal remains of Francisco Alejandro Lopez-Gonzalez, who was reported missing since May 2011 by family members, were discovered in a shallow grave on Feb. 22. His death was ruled a homicide.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office has issued a press release cautioning citizens to be aware of their surroundings due to a recent string of burglaries. The suspect (a hispanic female) is described as approximately 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, thin, with medium length black or brown hair with possible blonde highlights. She is described as wearing a black backpack. She targets cash and small items such as jewelry, coin, and baseball cards during the daytime when the homeowners are at work.

South Lake Tahoe authorities make arrest in 31-year murder case of Richard Swanson

A Carmichael, Calif., man has been arrested in the 31-year-old murder case of Richard Swanson, South Lake Tahoe police report.
On March 28, 2012 Andrew Sanford, 50, of Carmichael, was arrested and booked in the Sacramento County Jail for the murder of Richard Swanson. The robbery/homicide occurred on Aug. 14, 1980 in South Lake Tahoe at what was then the Shell Gas Station located at the “Y” on the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd and Emerald Bay Road.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office looking for suspected window shooter

At approximately 5:30 am on Sunday, March 25th, 2012, deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a call of suspicious circumstances - possible shots fired at the Nevada Ugly Bar, 1433 US Hwy 395, Gardnerville, Nevada.

Upon arrival at the location, deputies observed the front glass window of the business was fractured with numerous cracks.

Douglas County authorities seek the public's help in locating several suspects involved in an attempt to cash a stolen check on Saturday at a drive-thru window at Bank of America on Topsy Lane in north Douglas County near Carson City.
The primary suspect, an unidentified male adult, attempted to cash the stolen check at 11:15 a.m. on Saturday while using the drive-thru teller window, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Jim Halsey.

Crime Log: Carson City convenience store robbed; upcoming DUI checkpoint

The Rand Avenue convenience store behind Tierra Plaza was robbed last night at approximately 8:30 p.m. No arrests have been made. The log indicates that the suspect may have injured himself during the robbery, as an officer reported discovering blood.

A DUI checkpoint is scheduled for 6 p.m. - midnight this Saturday, March 17th, at the intersection of Carson and Colorado streets. Officers will be inspecting vehicles for intoxicated drivers as well as child passenger safety.

Douglas authorities make arrests in Lake Tahoe cocaine sting

The Tri-NET Narcotic Task Force, working in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team (SET), the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, and the Santa Cruz California Police Department arrested 26 year-old Joseph Perez and 25 year-old Oscar Madriz, both of Santa Cruz, California, on charges of trafficking and sales of cocaine. The arrests were made on March 2.

Douglas County fugitive found at Carson City motel

UPDATE: From the Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Fleeing felon Victor Mora Jr. was captured Wednesday night, at the Carson City Inn Motel in Carson City. Mora Jr. was captured by Douglas County Investigator Investigator Nadine Chrzanowski after receiving an anonymous tip regarding his whereabouts.
Mora Jr. is currently in custody at the DCSO Minden Jail, booked on an arrest warrant for lewdness with a minor.
Bail is set at $50,000.
Chrzanowski expresses her appreciation for assistance received from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office in assisting in the arrest.

Authorities look for man who robbed Carson City Arco

Carson City authorities are looking for an armed man who held up a the Arco station in the 2700 block of Highway 50 at around 1 a.m. early Tuesday morning, KOLO TV Channel 8 reports. The robber made off with about $300 cash. Go here for the story and video.

Four charged in Reno murder and Carson City robbery spree

After a comprehensive investigation by detectives from the Reno Police Dept. in conjunction with detectives from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, all four defendants have been charged in the murder of Steven Gale, from the morning of May 9th on California Avenue. In addition they were charged with several other robberies and related crimes in both Carson City and Reno.

Douglas County authorities seek public help in copper wire theft

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office seeks the public’s help in identifying the person(s) responsible for stealing approximately 4,000 pounds of copper wire from the Buckskin Mine. The theft was discovered on May 5, according to a press statement.

The mine is located in the northeast section of Douglas County, where it borders Lyon County. Access to the mine is made from the Lyon County side of the Pine Nut Mountains, through Mason Valley.

Douglas authorities seeking strongarm robbery suspects

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying two suspects involved in a strongarm robbery that took place on Thursday, March 24th, at approximately 3:30 pm, in the Wal-Mart parking lot, off Topsy Lane in north Douglas County.

In the incident, a Hispanic female forcibly stole a small black case suspended by a breakaway lanyard from around the victim’s neck as the victim was walking to her car in the parking lot.

Pair sought on child luring charges arrested in Oregon

UPDATE 8:10PM: Two suspects wanted by Douglas authorities on three counts of Luring a Child under the age of 14 were arrested in Oregon tonight.
Angela Koontz, 26, and her 34-year-old husband George Redmon Jr. were arrested and will be extradited back to Nevada, said Douglas County Sgt. Jim Halsey.
Douglas authorities had suspected the couple learned of warrants for their arrest and fled the county. A Secret Witness alert had been issued earlier this afternoon.

Pair wanted for check fraud sought by Douglas County authorities

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying two suspects who cashed fraudulent checks at the Carson Valley Inn last month.

The pair entered the cashier's cage at the casino on Feb. 24 and cashed fraudulent checks for an undisclosed amount of money. The incident was reported to the sheriff's office on March 11, according to Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Halsey.

The suspects are believed to be part of a group of suspects who have recently cashed counterfeit paychecks at several Northern Nevada area casino, he said.

Carson City woman recovering after hit and run accident; authorities search for driver

A hit and run accident sent a Carson City woman to the hospital by Care Flight Sunday night and authorities are now looking for the driver who hit her.

The 20-year-old Carson City woman was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno. She is said to be slated for release later after suffering injuries from the accident, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

More details emerge in Sunday teen stabbing; suspect remains at large

The following is from Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong regarding a stabbing on Sunday that resulted in a wounded teen girl and a father who was grazed by a bullet.

Suspect John Linville, 17, remains at large and is considered dangerous, Furlong said. The incident was reported at 9:47 p.m., on Sunday. Deputies were called to the 1500 block of Walker Drive following a dispute between two teens, Furlong said.

Two Carson City men face property destruction charges after allegedly shooting out 13 windows inside a building in the 2800 block of Arrowhead Drive that caused an estimated $5,200 in damage.

Eric Dean Larson, 23, faces a felony property destruction charge as well as being in the possession of a burglary tool, a gross misdemeanor. Garrett Wesley Blackwell, 20, faces a felony property destruction charge, a charge of discharging a firearm into a structure, also a felony, and a misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm.

A Carson City woman and an employee of Kohl's faces a felony embezzlement charge after she was found on video surveillance taking more than $1,000 from the company cash register.

Katherine Lynn Koval, 27, was arrested on Tuesday. Bail was set at $15,000.

Carson City authorities arrest woman in bank identity thefts; investigators report $100,000 stolen

A California woman who tried to withdrawal $9,100 in the form of a cashiers check at a Carson City US Bank told authorities that she's "tired of the lies" removed a wig she was wearing and confessed to false identity crimes.

Margaret Murdock, 59, of Pleasanton, Calif., faces felony charges of obtaining money by false pretenses, false identification crimes, forgery and burglary. Bank investigators say Murdock may be responsible for about $100,000 stolen in California. Bail is set at $20,000.

Douglas County authorities ask for help in solving two arson attempts at valley schools

Douglas County authorities are investigating arson attempts at two Carson Valley elementary schools.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding the acts of arson that were discovered at both Minden and Gardnerville elementary schools on the mornings of Wednesday, Aug. 18 and Thursday, Aug. 19, according to a press statement. In each of the cases, school custodians discovered evidence the fires were intentionally set.
