Finally, Nevada Day weekend is here. State offices are closed, the kids are off school, and Carson City is hoppin’. Join the Downtown Business Association for the ‘Passport to Downtown’ with live music, a raffle, craft and vendor show, and a family fun center, complete with petting zoo. Stick around for the annual fall Blinky Man Costumed Nighttime Bike Ride Pub Crawl with Lights. Halloween festivities, a carnival in Mills Park, and opening night of the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow are on today’s list, as well.

It’s that time again. The Battle Born state celebrates its admission to the United States on the last Friday of October, with the annual Nevada Day parade on Saturday. New this year is a ‘Passport to Downtown’ event on Friday. Also new this year is the one-night-only curated art show, Capital Collage, on Friday night featuring over 20 diverse artists and organizations.

The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. Corgi Tahoe Takeover

A group of Corgis from Northern Nevada got together Sunday for their second annual Corgi Tahoe Takeover. There were about 30 Corgis and their owners attending. It's far fewer from the Corgi-con meet-ups in Southern and Northern California, but just as much fun. We all met at the dog beach in Carnelian Bay.

Hang in there, Carson City, spring is coming. If you can make it through today you’ll be rewarded with warming temperatures, with Sunday starting a nice little run in the 70s. Celebrate Arbor Day with a tree planting at Mills Park, and if you’re one of the first fifty arrivals you’ll get your own sapling to plant. Afterwards, take a stroll with the Carson City Historical Society and learn about the history of our big downtown trees. Tonight, Carson Comedy takes over the Carson Nugget and the Brewery Arts Center as Dan Gabriel and Chris Franjola bring the laughs.

Mark Twain Elementary to host My School Color Run this Saturday at Mills Park

Mark Twain Elementary School will host its community wide My School Color Run this Saturday, April 22, 10 a.m. at Mills Park in Carson City.

Participants are encouraged to sign in early beginning at 9 a.m. The two mile event, a fundraiser for the school, is designed as all ages walk, jog or run and is for all fitness abilities.

During the event, participants pass through designated color zones as part of an enhanced spring time bounty of full on colorful experiences. This is the second annual event.

Drone use for search and rescue will be explored at UNR national symposium

Heading a stellar line-up of speakers for the second annual UAS Search and Rescue Symposium, Gene Robinson, who literally wrote the book on how to use drones for search and rescue and disasters, will talk about how to train public safety agencies in the use of aerial and ground robots in emergency response.
