New leadership roles assigned for Carson City School Board, approved calendar

At the first school board meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 14, Mike Walker was named the newest president of the Carson City School District Board of Trustees. He replaced former President Stacie Wilke-McCulloch, as the school board’s leader.

South Carson Street Pre-construction Meeting

The South Carson Complete Streets Project design is complete, Carson City Public Works and the project contractor, Sierra Nevada Construction, Inc., will be hosting a pre-construction meeting to present the anticipated construction schedule and the completed project design.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, in the Sierra Room, located at 851 E. William St., Carson City.

Carson City Schools on 2 hour delay Friday

Due to winter related conditions, all schools in the Carson City School District will begin 2-hours later than their usual start time, Friday, Jan. 17, 2020.

All Pre-K and Early Childhood Carson City school classes, those include morning recreation programs, are canceled. Breakfast will not be served. Principals will adjust the school schedule for the shortened day. Educators and staff should arrive safely and as early as they are able, well before school is to begin on the shortened schedule.

Greenhouse Project dinner fundraiser, comedy, live music and more: Carson City region readies for upcoming weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. The Union will host a dining fundraiser for the Greenhouse Project on Friday, and artist Jakota Wass performs at Bella Vita Bistro. The 43rd annual Wild Sheep Show will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention. Comedian Marc Yaffee headlines the Carson Comedy Club on Saturday with much more in store for the weekend! The first significant winter storm of 2020 will be blowing into the region Thursday afternoon, bringing gusty winds, heavy snow in the Sierra and 1-2 inches of snow possible in the lower valleys. Famed country rock band I See Hawks in L.A. perform at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse on Saturday. The Brewery Arts Center launches 'School of Rock, Senior Years' in Carson City

With almost 15 percent of the population of Carson City being at least 65 years of age or older, the Brewery Arts Center announces its newest project geared towards that sector, School of Rock: Senior Years.

This exciting new program will begin in January of 2020 and BAC will train, house and facilitate a choir who will learn and perform rock, pop, hip-hop and surf music comprised entirely of people over the age of 65. The choir will meet in our beautiful Grand Ballroom under the direction of James Rossi.

Carson City supervisors OK more than $800K in Rifle Range funding, could reopen 6 days a week

The Carson City Board of Supervisors approved more than $809,000 in funding for a contract between the City and Four Point Engineering to provide necessary safety improvements at the Rifle and Pistol Range during the first Supervisor’s meeting of 2020 Thursday.
