NV Energy Puts Temporary Savings Above the Safety Of Its Customers and Their Homes (opinion)
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 08/25/2020 - 4:32pmTo All Northern Nevada Residents, Effective July 1, 2020 NV Energy raised the fees for a customer disconnect/reconnect. From the original application, it is evident that these fees were increased in order to offset the $5 million dollar revenue decrease requested. Now, NV Energy seeks to fulfill an additional $120 million revenue decrease. While this reduction in revenue benefits residential customers in the short-term, the recent request continues to penalize Northern Nevadans from making needed repairs to their homes electrical systems.

The public comment period will remain open through September 19, 2020.
DMV to extend weekday hours in Reno and Vegas; no changes for Carson City, rural offices

DMV says the changes will offer more appointments while maintaining COVID-19 health and safety protocols. The plans do not affect Carson City and rural Nevada offices.

PHS is accredited through AdvancED and has been recognized by the Nevada Department of Education as a “Highlighted School” for achievement in 2011 and 2018. Students at PHS have been able to earn an Associate’s Degree from WNC along with their high school diploma free of charge.

Deadline on Wednesday for families to decide Carson City district in-school or distance-learning intent

Parents need to submit their intent of preferred learning for their students by Wednesday Aug. 5 so that their student's school will know how to prepare.

A new directive by the state of Nevada requires school districts to submit three reopening plans for the upcoming school year. The three plans include one for complete in-person instruction, one for hybrid instruction and one for all-distance learning.
Carson City School Board agrees to August 24 start date, hybrid schedule for all schools

Families are also given the option of 100 percent distance learning, but there is no option at this time for 100 percent in school learning, except for certain special education students.

The meeting, which will take place in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street, will decide on how the reopening of the new school year will go in Carson City Schools.
Nevada high school fall sports will be moved to March, amongst other scheduling changes

State playoffs are not expected to take place this year, as well. The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association announced Thursday that all fall sports in Nevada will be played in March of 2021 to lower the spread of COVID-19.
