Reno Aces, Nevada Wolf Pack set exhibition game for April 5

The Reno Aces and the University of Nevada Wolf Pack baseball team will play their annual exhibition game on Tuesday, April 5 at 6:05 p.m. at Aces Ballpark, the organizations announced today.

“As is the case every year since I have managed the Aces, I am really excited about our exhibition game against the Wolf Pack,” said Aces third-year manager Phil Nevin. “It's great for our players to prep for the season and it means Opening Day is near.”

Reno Aces to host 'Ticketpalooza' March 12

This is the second annual “Reno Aces Hot Stove Luncheon." It begins at 11:30 a.m. at Harrah’s Reno. A buffet-style lunch will be served prior to Aces radio broadcaster Ryan Radtke leading a baseball panel discussion with Gil Heredia, former Carson High School baseball standout Matt Williams and Bob Gebhard.

BSA Troop 33 to Host the 2nd Annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser

BSA Troop 33 is excited to announce it will be hosting its 2nd Annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 15, 2015 at Carson City’s Fuji Park.

The Show will be from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; award ceremony starts at 3 p.m. Registration is $40 per entry. There is still time for pre-registration or you can register on the day of the event. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, one lunch meal ticket, and a dash plaque.

Nevada Fair is offically open

The Nevada Fair at Fuji Park is officially open. Reno Aces mascot Archie cut the ribbon at noon on Thursday, flanked by fair organizers and members of the Carson City Board of Supervisors.

Returning for the second year, the Nevada Fair runs today through Sunday. The premium book is open at NevadaFair.com for entries in the livestock shows as well as other competitions, including home arts, cooking, homespun items and sewing. There's also carnival rides.

Reno-based Sierra Meat and Seafood has purchased The Sausage Factory in Carson City. In May the Flocchini Family, through the holding company, Armand Agra, bought the Sausage Factory from Joe Tonino.

Wildcats lose play-by-play voice Chris Graham; WNC baseball looks for new broadcaster

Western Nevada College’s highly regarded baseball team has lost its voice. Chris Graham, the longtime voice of the Wildcats, won’t return this season to broadcast WNC baseball games over the Internet.

The three-time Scenic West Athletic Conference Broadcaster of the Year has volunteered as the Wildcats’ play-by-play announcer for eight seasons. Now, a new job at the Nevada Legislature will not permit him the time to continue with his self-described passion.

Carson City-based Sausage Factory gourmet meats now available at Raley's

In time for summer and the July 4 holiday weekend, Carson City's own Sausage Factory now has its products in 14 Raley's supermarkets throughout Northern Nevada.

Shoppers can find 18 varieties of the gourmet sausage, made exclusively in Carson City, in the meat department of any of the grocery stores, said Sausage Factory President Joe Tonino.

"We're proud to be in such a high quality store here in Northern Nevada. Our product line matches well in their meat case," said Tonino.

Carson City Bartender Wins Cocktail Challenge

This past Monday, area bartenders, mixologists, and industry insiders descended upon the Reno Aces Stadium for the Wirtz Beverage Craft Spirits and Specialty Expo.

Six people, chosen at random, competed in an Iron Style Cocktail Competition: 10 minutes to create a beverage for the 4 US Bartenders Guild judges. Steven Sedillos, Adele's server and bartender/mixologist at The Blue Bull, tied for first place with his Basil-Berry Sparkler.

A Carson City man has been sentenced to life in prison for the gang-related shooting death of a man near Aces Ballpark in downtown Reno.

For the past couple of months I have been a co-host for a radio sports show "Talking Sports with Rick Parr." Rick Parr is the General Manager for the Reno Aces. It's a great show. We talk everything sports for an hour live every Wednesday morning from the Reno Town Mall and on 101.3 FM Renegade Radio or on renegaderadio.org. This show is interactive to the listeners. You can call in, come in to the mall and join us live on set, or you can chime in on Facebook. If you miss the live show, you can hear the replay of the last week's show every Sunday evening at 5pm on 99.1 FM Talk.

Graham's Word: AAA All-Star Weekend A Great Success For Reno And Northern Nevada

All-Star Weekend was a huge success for the Northern Nevada area. The Fanfest festivities were a great way to kick off the big weekend. The events included appearances by former San Francisco Giants JT Snow, Robb Nen, Steve Finley, and Jack Clark. There were great interactive things for the fans to do as well: Batting cages, test your pitching speed, see how fast you could steal home, and my favorite thing was the whiffle ball home run field they created in the Reno Events Center.

Food For Thought would like to think all the people who came out and supported us at our Saddle Up For Kids Events. Friday, June 28th’s dinner at the Governor’s Mansion and Saturday, June 29th’s Carnival at Mills Park wouldn’t have been as successful if not for our volunteers!

AAA Carson City awards $5,000 to Carson City fire department, sheriff's office

CARSON CITY — Hundreds of people showed up last week to pay tribute to Carson City’s finest — who along with AAA’s renowned roadside assistance program — come to the rescue for local citizens every day.

AAA handed the Carson City Fire and Sheriff’s Department a $2,500 check each to pay for public education materials and the K9 unit, respectively.

“(We) will use it there (as) a way to give back,” said Tom Tarulli of the Carson City Fire Department.

In addition, Friday’s event brought out officials and the mascot for the Reno Aces. AAA sponsors the minor league baseball team.

Beer and Bräts Fundraiser May 17 for Nevada Sharks Softball

The annual Sharks Beer and Bräts fundraiser for Nevada Sharks Fastpitch Softball will be held at the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall in Carson City on May 17 beginning at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $20 with all proceeds going to support the program by keeping the cost down for the families by funding tournament fees, uniforms, equipment and our indoor training facility.
