What to do, what to do? That’s the question that starts most every weekend. If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

I hope your dancing shoes are handy because the music will have you on your feet. Local favorites, Jelly Bread, take the stage at McFadden Plaza as part of the Fridays at the Fox series. Start the weekend with some belly laughs: either with Kevin Farley at the Brewery Arts Center or with Mrs. John Hughes at the Carson Nugget. Break a leg to our talented friends and neighbors participating in this year’s Senior Follies. ‘As Seen On TV’ marks the twentieth year the variety show has showcase local talent.

FRIDAY:

Where else in the world can you traverse a forest composed entirely of dilapidated and half-buried cars, photograph a plaster ghost riding a bicycle next to a giant metal penguin and miner, admire eloquent murals depicting history, and watch 30-foot flames shoot from the antennae of a giant metal praying mantis? Nevada, of course. And the 2017 Nevada Magazine Silver State Scavenger Hunt is the perfect way to do it.

What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. The Annual Chili Cook-off returns to Glen Eagles this weekend; with live music, a craft fair, and lots of yummy stuff to eat, raising money for Honor Flight has never tasted so good. Whether you are looking for a night on the town with friends or something for the whole family, Carson City has got you covered. The Friday night concerts in the McFadden Plaza will get everyone movin' and groovin' - especially when a band like Mojo Green hits the stage. Kids will love the Dive-in Movie night at the Carson Aquatic Center. Moana will be playing on their big, new LED screen. Everyone is invited to the open mic at A to Zen hosted by award-winning singer/songwriter Canyon White. The party never stops at Living the Good Life: they'll start with Carolyn Dolan and Peter Supersano on the stage and then let Soul Connection take it into late night. As the summer continues, the kids can get restless. Beat the heat indoors with bowling specials at Gold Dust West and Carson Lanes. BMX racing is fun for all ages, and you can check it out for yourself at the weekly practice night at the Livermore Sports Complex on Edmonds. Grab your smartest friends for DJ Trivia at the Westside Pour House, just get there early if you want to order dinner, too. Hosts John and Cherie Shipley invite you to the jazz jam at Living the Good Life; you never know who’ll join them on stage.

WEDNESDAY:

Tickets for this year’s Fuji Park Flat Trac will be sold at a discounted price until July 1. Tickets purchased before then will be $5 for children and $15 for adults; afterwards prices will go up $5 to $10 for children and $20 for adults. Buy them at visitcarsoncity.com.

How much fun can you pack into a weekend? That isn’t purely a rhetorical question – it’s more of a challenge. Grab the kids for a day at the Dangberg Home Historical Ranch where storytellers are the featured guests. Locals are in the spotlight at the Rockabilly Riot, the Iron Rebels Car Show is for resident cars only. The bells are ringing at the First United Methodist Church. Handbell Ensemble group, Tintabulations, presents a free concert at 7 p.m.

Let the good times roll, Carson City. Cars, chrome, choppers, and kruzers are in abundance. Run Whatcha Brung at Fuji Park is open to any and all cars that can get themselves there. The Rockabilly Riot and T Bucket Alliance at Mills Park is an American Graffiti flashback. Cheer on our local motorcycle cops at the Extreme Motor Challenge, or hop on your own bike and go on a poker run with the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club.

Sunday capped off the 3-day Carson City Off-Road mountain bike racing series in downtown Carson City as the pro men and women backcountry races highlighted the main event of the day.

The all-new Carson Raceway is set to celebrate its grand opening in Carson City this Friday from noon to 10 p.m.

The Carson City area BMX community has launched its annual Race For Life campaign to help raise money in the fight to find a cure for blood-related cancers. Racers and their families can pick up collection envelopes and begin collecting donations from friends, relatives, neighbors and businesses in the community. Helping others is one of the finest things anyone can ever do in life. Donations raised will go to help fight and bring to an end a dreadful disease that affects thousands of people each year.

Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. The State Fair and Rendezvous continues at Mills Park, and now you can head into the Pavilion and get your car or bike registered for the Show and Shine. Shiny cars are also welcome at the Carson Cruise - Meet and Greet's Summer Cruise Night: start out at Bully's Sports Bar and you'll convoy down to McFadden Plaza for the Fridays at the Fox Concert Series Kick-off. Shane Dwight takes the stage to get weekend off to a great start.

Sunday funday has arrived. You’ve got one last chance to hear the rumble down at Battle Born Harley – Street Vibrations is coming to a close. With perfect weather for a picnic, a day at Mills Park makes perfect sense, and the Carson and Mills Park Railroad is up and running for the season. Head to Genoa for a lazy afternoon and enjoy live music by the Cash Only Band on the Genoa Bar Porch. Don Corleone is going to make you an offer you can’t refuse: The Godfather plays on the big screen at Galaxy Theater.

Mallory and Molly Otto, both 18, were new to mountain biking last year when the Carson City Off-Road came to town.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. Congratulations on surviving yet another school year, it's officially summer. Celebrate with a family outing to Bower's Mansion and stick around for some live music by Acoustic Solution. Watch out for motorcycles, now that the Spring Rally has rumbled into town, the bikes will be out in full force. Tonight, head over to the Fandango to enjoy the Trey Stone Trio or grab a Hawaiian shirt and join in the Beach Party Karaoke fun at Carson Lanes.

Carson City BMX has joined forces as part of USABMX with the United States Olympic Committee to offer a free day of BMX racing.

It’s the perfect time to enjoy family and friends and some great music. The Carson Nugget powers it up to rock out tonight with Volt: A Tribute to AC/DC in their ballroom. Dayton Valley Golf Course offers up dinner and a show with this year’s debut of Concerts on the Green. Blues Monster and pulled pork sliders are a great way to enjoy the evening.
